To celebrate my recent birthday I decided to commission my first-ever custom-designed rod, and having greatly admired his previous works, I asked Dwight (Newell Nut) to build it for me. Well, I received it yesterday, and to say that he exceeded my wildest expectations is an understatement! Although photos cannot begin to fully convey the beauty of this rod, here are a few shots of my new prize, which will be mated with an Avet 30 2-speed for my upcoming 8-day:

It goes without saying (though I am) that if you're in the market for a custom rod, you can rest assured that should you choose to work with him, Dwight will build it to your most exacting specifications... and for any lucky lady angler, as you see, he does a brilliant job with Seeker's pink Athenas! :D
THANK YOU, Dwight, for fulfilling my vision in the most extraordinary fashion. You are a gifted artisan, and a true gentleman besides. :)
~Aiala~
Beautiful Aiala. Dwight is really turning out some fine work! Hope you crank in lots of the big boys with it. Soweet combo.
Regards, .. Lou
That's so you! Did you go to Coachella last weekend? How about this weekend?
That's beautiful, but keep an eye out for Dominick; it'll match his pink speedo and he shouldn't be trusted with such a tempation.... :)
Sid
Yup!! Very nice, matches the reel well 8)
Marc..
It's a beauty alright. I might switch to purple Speedos after seeing this set-up. ::) Dominick

:o Awesome Job Dwight.
NICE!!!
Absolutely stunning!
Dwight has been on a pink, and purple kick of late, and is turning out some great looking, and I'm sure, performing sticks.
White, pink, and purple look good together as well.
Don'the be afraid to give it a good workout.
Thanks everyone, after what Aiala said I need to hire her to write my resume. And Dominick if you want one I have a new shipment of blanks arriving Friday. ;)
Beautiful Rod Dwight :o

Dwight, awesome work. Will you be wrapping rods in Hawaii?
Very nice!!! Will the Avet take the place of the 6/0 you masterfully tanked?
Very nice!
Wow!
What a beautiful setup.
Having had Dwight build some reels for me, I am not surprised at how good that rod looks in pink! Well done Dwight!

No Bryan, not building in Hawaii but I have offered to help John get his operation up to speed and hopefully shorten his learning curve.

I need all the help I can get.
I wish there was a magic fairy, or something that could grant me more free time.
:)
Nice, clean, work!
That's a beauty!
Hope you get to put a serious bend in that ;D
Perfection a it's best. He built one for my son that is perfect.
Dwight: Super nice job!
Joe

That I am, Mr. T... and more grateful than I can say. :)
Mark, the mere
thought of Coachella gives me the cold horrors... as much as possible, I avoid the entire millennial mess. :P
Dominick, please do NOT switch to purple Speedos... you'll shock all the fish into floaters. ::) ;D
John, no, I'm intending this setup for large (I hope!) BFTs or YFTs. I'll probably designate the 6/0 as my deep dropper loop rig. ;)

every thing that qualify as FIRST EVER has a special place in our memories and emotions, I can only imagine how do you feel with this beauty of a rod, that deserve to be on the living room in a corner or something for the enjoyment of your friends and family.
Im waiting my First ever 2-speed reel, a Fathom 40LD2, dang, its like having 9 years old again and waiting for your first Bikecycle, I cant wait to have it and cant wait to try it.

Excellent! When you're ready, Dwight can build you a masterpiece to match that Fathom 40LD2. ;)

yep, I already crossed few PMs with Dwight and after few thoughts by my side desided to go with a better reel and kicked the custom rod plan to the front a bit more, but the contact is already made, my Dday is next august ;) if not maybe next Xmas.
My personal Pink Lady blank arrived yesterday. Not sure when I will have time to build it but it will not spoil. Maybe July if I don't get any more orders on my backlog. It will be fun crushing an amberjack with a pink rod or a stringer full of mangos.
Speaking of perfection: Last year when I ordered a Cork Puppy from Dwight, along with it he sent me several pieces of abalone shell, which I had made into earrings, and they are now my lucky charms whenever I go fishing. Well, when I bought a Newell P332-F from him a few months ago, he again sent some even bigger pieces, which were so beautiful that I had them made into this:

Incredible, eh? So now, thanks to Dwight, I own a fantastic custom-built Seeker Athena AND a one-of-a-kind necklace/earring set that would make any gal green with envy.

Beautiful piece of jewelry Aiala, will go really nice with a Yellowtail ;).
Maybe we'll get to see that pic in the near future :)

Wow this thread keeps getting better!
I am so close to getting in the long line of Dwight built rod holders.
Aiala you spoil your self perfectly!
May you see all those colors again reflected in the sides of a huge BFT!
That is sweeet :)

Thanks, Randy and Mr. Steelfish. :)
As with the rod, I had a concept of what I wanted, but I left it to the experts --Dwight and my jeweler-- to transform my ideas into reality... which they both did,
par excellence! ;)

Bula Aiala,
I just saw the sharks tooth after Al mentioned it...is a real one or a decal?
It looks suspended in resin in the first pic.
Gorgeous rod & setup

All of my shark tooth inlays are real shark teeth. I have buy a lot of them in order to find perfectly shaped upper teeth to fit the rod. Usually takes four coats of rod finish to get it to round out over the corners of the tooth. Takes a lot of time. To create the suspended look I put my first coat of epoxy finish on the thread. When it is almost set and still fairly tacky I stop the drier and then place the shark tooth. It sticks well and then I continue drying until set. And then a couple days later all the coats are added and completely round. I did a cool suspended trick with a lady's rod here with about twenty pieces of abalone fragments. With each layer of epoxy I would place a few more random pieces of abalone. Turned out really cool with the multiple elevations.
Nice Dwight, that looks awesome.
My moms house in Venice literally has urns and urns of sharks teeth found by us over the years.a couple smaller jars of white ones but mostly fossils.
I'm going to have to give that a shot.
After seeing Aiala's earrings, I'm in the process of hunting down some abalone myself to pass on to a lapidary friend of mine. ;)
Mate, you're full of great ideas and sharp skills!
Thanks for sharing!
