Here,s a handy devise I made a while ago to sorta hold the reels from rolling around or falling over. Its a block of soft wood (cedar) with a cloth or foam insert glued in the cavity. The plastic ears can be moved around as needed and were made from a pc of scrap deck plastic.

this plastic is not brittle and is easily drilled and sawn.

Seems to work good on most reels and saves frustrations.

The center part was lowered with a 4.5 inch holesaw and electric drill that is fairly common. or possibly borrowed. Then the center was chiseled out after the big holes saw cut was made about 1/2 inch deep. spade/paddle drill bits could speed the center removal first.

I love homemade tools! Great idea!
I've been working on a similar tool also. I'll post some pics when it's done.
Great idea Gary. I prefer to slip, drop and catch with my knees. Doh!
