Title: Almost There
Post by: foakes on March 06, 2014, 05:45:18 PM
Been working on about 160 reels to get ready for the Fresno County Sportsman Swap Meet this Saturday, in Central California.

Got the salt conventionals, mostly old Penns ready -- new posts, rings, stands, HT-100 wet drags with Cal's grease and SS washers, completely disassembled, any weak or broken parts replaced with new, cleaned, lubed with Yamaha MG, oiled, etc.

Started on the Spinners a couple of days ago -- every time I open up one of the old 700 series of Penn Spinners -- I am awed by the quality and engineering -- I completed 8 of these, and all they basically needed was maybe a bail spring or two, handle knobs, some A/R springs, clean and evacuate the bearings, upgrade the drags, etc.  They may not look like much to some folks -- but they run like sewing machines.  Amazing quality.

Still have about 80 Quicks and Mitchells to do in the next 2 days -- each gets 10 minutes tops, as needed.  They are not as bad as the harder ones already done.  Some will need little outside of removing and refreshing the grease, adjusting, oiling, quick WD40 rub down on the exterior, check operation of A/R, clicker, bail, bail springs.  Any more involved reels will go to the wayside until time permits.  But I think the ones I have picked out are pretty much ready to go with minor attention.

Best,

Fred

WOW!   Fred, that's very impressive.   I wished I could be there for the swap meet.

Love those Z-Series Penn spinners.  I think I have a 710 somewhere that I used for striper fishing when I first moved to California.

Looks like you keep busy!   and your still alive,  many of us would have been dead by now!!!!! as our wives would have killed us if we had that many reels,  especially the pile of them on the table for more than 2-3 days max.......at least your a little organized....  I,m still tryin tho.     gst.
