Been working on this reel a while. .kinda my boredom project. Its got a carbontex drag , ss gear sleeve and ss dog.Had to install a clicker tongue and button(peened it on).well seems like I have lots of play in there now.ok here's my problem. When I engage it in gear its great but if I put it in free spool with the clicker engaged a give  the spool a spin it kicks off the clicker.

Just a guess but it sounds like the clicker tongue was not all the way on the shaft when you peened it.

peen it more to tighten it up, but be careful not to slip and crack the side plate

I use the one with the c-clip as a replacement. I replaced one on a 12/0 that worked out great. I was afraid of running into the same problem you have.
