Title: PENN GTO 230
Post by: Normslanding on April 17, 2014, 12:18:03 AM
Hi all, Someone brought me a Penn GTO 230. The reel feel like it has a gear tooth missing. When turning the handle ( with pressure on the spool) it acts like a anti- reverse dog the has a worn tooth, except going forward instead of backward. I broke the reel down, it look like new inside. The gears, dog, level wind, every thing look great. Any input would sure help.
Thanks.

The GTOs have quite a lot of handle slop due to their design (Senator style). Go through the reel and correct any assembly problems that you find. Also check the tightness of the stand screws (their major fault) and if the owner approves do the stand screws upgrade (the 230 benefits greatly from it because it's larger and is more prone to stand screws loosening)
