Title: Newell 220 drag washers
Post by: Norcal Pescador on July 10, 2010, 02:56:32 AM
Alan,

In your Newell 220-5 tutorial, you used a Penn #6-113 under the main gear because it's thicker than a 6-60. Can a #6-60 still be used in this application without causing any problems?

Thanks.

it's best not to.  i've found that the looser weave of the #6-60 causes the drag washer to get mashed down pretty badly.  it still works, but it looks bad after it's been in service for a while.  that's why i went to the thicker #6-113.  dawn at smoothdrag.com has a washer that she puts underneath the main gear and it holds up just fine.  it's a more tightly woven material and that's what makes the difference. alan
