Should the cord on the handle be treated with anything to preserve it?

I use all synthetic cord but I still put 2 coats of Spar Urethane on it for waterproofing/bonding. I use those little disposable foam brushes from home depot and just go light. 2 Coats about 4 hours apart is all it needs :)

i have newell 533 that i am going to narrow with a tib frame and spool kit. it's also going to get one of bryan's drag kits and one of my handles. he should be all set.
