Interesting news article from my old home island. The video of a crab shedding its shell is amazing.

Pretty Cool Mike. The only crab shell shedding I want is on my Plate! King, Dungeness and Snow Crabs in particular. ;)

I am with you there, crab on a plate, bottle of chilled white wine and a nice stick of French bread with our famous Jersey butter!!
I love Spider, nice sweet meat, never had Snow Crab, I don't think we get them here in the U.K.
Mike.
Every year we have to reeducate the chicken little people about this.
Here in the NE we treat them as trash. I was taught this as a child. Just through them back & let them keep the bottom clean. I was told that Black Fish [Tautog] like them when there isn't any other food around.
Mike
You know it's a slow drift when you start catching them while fluke fishing. Caught 3 of them on Sunday at about 11AM off Norton's Point, and while I can't knock it till I try it, they don't look very appetizing and their dirty as can be... algae, barnacles, etc. Are your spider crabs different?
Thanks
Dom
We have red rock and Dungeness crab.
We have some Japanese spider crabs at our local aquarium I would like to taste! :P

That's what I was saying... they have to be different because raccoons run away from our ugly spider crabs ;)
That does look like an eater there, Daron.
Dom
Box crabs are cool but they do not taste good. I have some dried that my wife keeps at her pre school. We would see several when diving for abs in SE Alaska, one is 16" across the carapace.

That is just what our spiders look like, not quite as big, don't know if yours tastes the same, but the meat is very sweet in ours.
Mike.
Your spider crabs look like our tanner crabs.

Hi Lee,
When you say diving for abs am I right in saying abalone, we unfortunately don't get them here in the U.K.
We used to get them back home in the Channel Islands the local name for them in Jersey is Ormer, wonderful slowly cooked in a pot overnight in a low oven, made a superb breakfast!!
There are strict laws on gathering ormers back home http://www.gov.je/Environment/LandMarineWildlife/FishShellfish/Pages/Ormers.aspx
If you look at the top of the page, Online information etc. below which is a translation into our local patois which is Norman French.
I posted a welcome in a previous post a while back in my local patois, and I think I confused the French speakers here!!
Mike.
P.S.
The 113H project from last year is about to come to fruition after a long time, will post photos when done.

That's it Lee.

Daron that's not fair :'(, it's 07.30hrs here and I want that for breakfast!!!
Daron
I bought the Crab Openers in SS & bring them to dinner. Most places here don't have them because people take them home. King Crab here are $17-20 Lb so I stay with the Snow Crab.
Mike
I only get the Kings when they are on sale. My local Kroger's usually always has a good deal! Steak, Crab legs and cakes, baked potato and salad for 3 people for about 50 Bucks! :P
The blue crabs here are called soft shell crabs after they molt. The new shell takes time to harden. We clean them and fry them. There is nothing better than fried soft shell crabs. No picking out meat. You eat the whole thing shell and all. ;D
