Can a Daiwa Luna 300 handle schoolie sized tuna and yellows under 30#?

I have the predecessor to them (Millionaire CX-V.) While I haven't caught anything that big with it I have caught enough to feel anything below 30# would be fine. I would remove the levelwind and swap in a carbontex drag.

By the way, this was the first "nice" reel I ever bought. Built like a tank and has ran forever.

yes.  braid extends the capabilities of all of these reels.  line capacity is no longer an issue.  you should be able to get 9 pounds of drag from your reel, along with 300 yards of 40 to 50# braid.  any reel that can deliver 9 pounds of drag and hold 300 yards of line can land a schoolie sized tuna!
