Post by: luckylundy on August 08, 2014, 05:00:29 PM
I want to buy a tap and chasing die to repair some 4600 reels trying to get the exact size?   e- mailed abu but they only will sell me replacement parts.
Any input would help.

not sure what the thread size is, but it's going to be european metric fine thread for sure.  that being said, you are most often better off replaceing the gear sleeve and the handle nut.  once the threads are damaged, they will never hold as well.   :-\

Hi. Phone either McMaster-Carr, or KBC and arrange to send them a functioning unblem'd
handle nut, and request a tap and die as per sample.  I think it's M6 x 0.75, but unsure.  The set will run you about 15.00 and stamps. If the top 2 threads are pooched on your driveshafts, as AT stated above, you are not going to be able to re-thread.
As a Canadian I could care less about contact info for Carr, as they don't do business with individual Canucks.  KBC operates on both sides of the border.
http://kbctoolsandmachinery.com/company_info   You can look up Carr yourself. Cheers, KD.
