Rigged and ready for 10 hour trip this Sunday out of Virg's Landing Moro Bay CA... Winner takes 50% of the total for the year!!! $1.00 per fisherman for the whole season goes into the pot ($4222.00 now)Pretty cool tournament. They have already landed up to 19+ pound Lings!!! I will at the very least have a great day on the water with my son Mike ;D

Pics to come...I will kick his butt as usual...Any local anglers should at least go once.

Only one question, brother...

Go get em.
Ron
Go get 'em Big Tim, looks like you're well armed. If you get lucky, be sure to share the wealth here ;).
Good luck!..

Dam#@t Ron...I have to throw some iron with confidence somehow ;D ;D ;D I will toss the Jigmaster shallow and the Avet deep (240-) My son has the Baja & 112h W/5.0:1 gears...They are killin' it on full sized frozen squid( I have 3 trays!!!)
Good luck and have fun, the ocean up here has not been happy for weeks.

Yesterday they went shallow and hit 54 keeper Lings, I am hoping we can get shallow and a bit up North for some Large Reds...Freezer Special ;D
Good Luck!!! Tight lines Bro'. Have a fun safe trip!
I'm giving you Good Mo Jo Tim! Good Luck Buddy! ;)
So my son fishes with my 113HN Sunday only to have a eccentric screw come loose and render it useless for a while ( I wonder who worked on that reel!) Next Mike grabs my fresh Jigmaster 500 W/Tib frame and all the goodies...I haven't even practiced with this reel :'( and he catches this :

At least I know this one works...About 1/2lb. shy of the $370 Jack Pot and no where near the fish needed for the tournament. I didn't even take a picture of my double Ling's (only 1 a keeper) as all my boyz fish were bigger ;D

Forget the tournament, you and your boy are going to eat fish you caught together. Nothing better!
Good on ya,
Ron

Ron hit the nail on the head...it's the Avet...all sorts of bad juju. ;)
Well, I didn't want to make the Fat Ba$!ard feel bad. ;D
Ron
I don't feel bad!!! But next time I will leave the AVET home. I did receive some nice comments on the old Penn's from some of the other fisherman. I am fortunate that both my sons like fishing, but this one is allot like me and now a Senior and soon to be goin' to college...I will miss him something fierce.

Yeah, I wanted to mention it to Tim the first time I saw them, but let it go. I would never use those, but looks like they're working out for him. :-\

I know...I'm lazy when on a Cattle Wagon and the swivels just make it easy ;D ;D I did tie them on with perfect jam knots ;D ;D ;D
its not the knot tim
its the swivel type, those particular ones are the
poorest quality
you dont want the swivel to give way on your
winning fish
cheers mate
I didn't notice them >:(
I know everybody poo poos those, but I grew up using them and don't ever remember losing a fish on them.
Ron
They can come apart, I prefer coastlock snaps.
They are less than $0.20 each here, 50# work for 30# albacore rigs but for lings I use 75# snaps, http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-BLACK-COASTLOCK-SNAP-SWIVEL-7-50-LBS-TEST-40mm-3-16-EYE-/161373688541?pt=US_Taxidermy&hash=item25929f12dd

Cool, I've used both and never had an issue. I do remember pulling apart the "weak" kind on a snag once.

Ron: I've put on the deck 30#-Fish from 500+ in the 1980's-90's on the same damn swivel??? I should change my ways!, now that I'm a grandpa ;D ;D ;D
I use the same type Lee is showing. Rosco 6/0's. I hook my Shark leader to the main line with them. They are rated at 450lb. $1 each.
Check out the SPRO Brand of swivels! Very small for huge pull strength!

I've used them in Cabo with NO failure rate,
I also use the tiny #10 power swivels for high sierra trout fishing.

Big Tim, for what it's worth, this was only constructive criticism:-\. I personally will only use lock snap swivels, you and Run enjoy using snap swivels.... whatever floats your boat. ;)

No offense taken...I actually like those SPRO'S Lee shows. I probably need to up my game bit for when I go after bigger fish, someday one of my cheapo's will fail and I will cuss something fierce ;D
