Title: Penn International 16S drag cover removal
Post by: Captain Spike on August 21, 2014, 05:03:27 PM
I've acquired a pair of International 16S reels in virtually unused condition. I've stripped and greased them but I can't work out how to get to the drag washer to check and grease that. I need to remove the drag cover but it isn't like any of my other Internationals; it consists of two plastic covers, one within the other which both rotate seperately from each other. The inner cover acts upon the dogs in the left hand sideplate. I've checked to see if either cover unscrews either clockwise or counter clockwise, used a pair of grips on the centre cover to see if it lifts out and I can't see that it will spring out if I use a small screwdriver under it.

It can't be difficult but I can't work it out so I must be dumber than I thought so anyone please advise me?

there are three small "T" marks on the plastic cover.  that is where the tabs are.  dig in with a small screwdriver and pry up the tabs.  when you put the cover back on, you will need to clean up the edges of the plastic or the cover will not sit properly.

Thank you Alan, all done now. It really is so obvious when it's pointed out!
