Title: first frozen adjustment screw, then really tight drags on 50Ws
Post by: lnajdzin on August 25, 2014, 11:32:23 PM
Hi All,
First time servicing a couple of 50TWs for a friend.  The drag adjustments were frozen stuck so i opened up and replaced the cam follower and the adjusting screw.  that solved the frozen issue, but when i reassembled the reels, the drags get real tight as soon as i move from "free" to "strike".  im thinking pilot error and have retraced my steps and studied the schematic and i am stuck.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lou

Aloha!    Welcome Lou

As for your issue with the drag ramping up to quickly, take a look at the tutorial.

thanks, i actually went through alan's detailed tutorial on the 30.  im beginning to think that the issue is the position of the disc springs or drag clutch.  he recommended a ()() configuration, but perhaps i need to go ())).  thoughts?

if it jumps up too much, go with the softer "()()" configuration.

thanks alan,
i tried both and it does an extreme jump just moving from "free" to "strike" without adjusting the preset knob.  could it have something to do with the cam follower pins position?
thanks again Lou

PS: this is a great forum

you have to start with the lever in free and the cam nesting in all the way down.   otherwise it will not work at all.
