Title: Last years 113H project
Post by: Jerseymic on August 26, 2014, 07:16:05 PM

Started gathering parts for this reel last year, now it is finally all in one piece!!

First of all I would like to thank Keta (Lee), Alto Mare (Sal), Alan C. (Black Pearl) and finally our boss Alan T. for their parts that have helped to make this happen.

All the parts together.
(http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae216/jerseymic/113H%20user/1_zps0a79e244.jpg) (http://s973.photobucket.com/user/jerseymic/media/113H%20user/1_zps0a79e244.jpg.html)

The internal goodies all polished. Got sore fingers flattening and polishing the metal drag washers!!
(http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae216/jerseymic/113H%20user/2_zpsd876f353.jpg) (http://s973.photobucket.com/user/jerseymic/media/113H%20user/2_zpsd876f353.jpg.html)

Milled out the sideplate for the second dog and gear clearance.
(http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae216/jerseymic/113H%20user/3_zpsf7f2f318.jpg) (http://s973.photobucket.com/user/jerseymic/media/113H%20user/3_zpsf7f2f318.jpg.html)

Washers all fit in the gear perfectly (This was before polishing)
(http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae216/jerseymic/113H%20user/4_zpsf4dce818.jpg) (http://s973.photobucket.com/user/jerseymic/media/113H%20user/4_zpsf4dce818.jpg.html)

Fitted the dogs.
(http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae216/jerseymic/113H%20user/5_zps728df41e.jpg) (http://s973.photobucket.com/user/jerseymic/media/113H%20user/5_zps728df41e.jpg.html)

Tried it all together, all works fine.
(http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae216/jerseymic/113H%20user/6_zps811a932b.jpg) (http://s973.photobucket.com/user/jerseymic/media/113H%20user/6_zps811a932b.jpg.html)

The handle I got for the 500 I want to narrow, but preferred the size on the 113H.
So with some cautious filing with a diamond needle file, fitted it to the 113H gear sleeve.

Nice tight fit.

On its way back together.
(http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae216/jerseymic/113H%20user/9_zps35014958.jpg) (http://s973.photobucket.com/user/jerseymic/media/113H%20user/9_zps35014958.jpg.html)

All in one piece.
(http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae216/jerseymic/113H%20user/10_zps896dcc07.jpg) (http://s973.photobucket.com/user/jerseymic/media/113H%20user/10_zps896dcc07.jpg.html)

All I am waiting for is the two outer rings in stainless, which our Penn guy is having trouble obtaining at present, but they will turn up one day!

Just got to get the line on, then hope someone will take me on the sea to try it out!

Mike.

Thanks Daron,

I just tried to leave as much meat as I could on the sideplate for the bridge to sit on, and that's the way it turned out!

Thanks Sal,

Although it's not in the second photo, I used your Delrin washer on top of the drag stack as well as under the gear sleeve.

Guys,

Other than the second Delrin washer, what is missing from the second photo?

Beautiful....BUT...

Wouldn't polishing the metal drag washers actually lower the drag capabilities?      I would think that having some surface friction could only help with the drag.

I'm assuming you are fishing it...and not displaying it..

Jess, I know your question is not directed to me, I just want to mention that I've been combining delrin with carbon fiber washers on my reels and the drags are still working as they should. Actually much smoother and putting out the same drag numbers.
Derlin is very slippery, even when squeezed with the star.
Same with Mike's reel, I'm thinking the buffed metal washers will still produce drag, but smoother.

String up the reel....and run a test.   This has me curious.

You're not the only one.

I`m with Marlinmate on this one. I think you will need a matt finish on the metal drag washers if you are going to grease the HT100.

I don't think its going to make that much of a difference. You can always scuff them up a little with emery cloth. I think once you crank down on that star with a fish on. That polish is going to be gone.

I don't know if I was right or wrong to polish the washers, I thought it would make the drag smoother (I am still learning)

For the fishing I do here  heavy drag is not necessary, I am looking for smoothness.

I will go with whatever you guys suggest for a smooth drag.

There is a very simple solution Basto, try them for yourself and put the speculation to rest ;) ;D.
While you're at it, put a couple of delrin washers in there, one under the gear and one on top of the stack, just under the last metal washer.
I'm betting you'll get the same drag numbers, but only smoother ;).

Polishing the washers should work fine, a cars rotors should be as polished as posible to keep braking smooth, should apply to drag washers as well. I just did an under gear delrin and made a 1/2" tall delrin sleeve spacer to replace the metal spacer sleeve on my 114. I had to use the original spacer plus two additional thick washers after changing from asbestos to ht100 washers. Drag numbers haven't changed and now I can crank it to lock down with little effort. Great find Sal, will be changing everything to delrin in the next few days.

I flatten my washers on a stone that leaves them smooth.  Smooth washers make a smoother drag.  I roughed up some and tested them and didn't see much if any difference.

Thanks guys,

I will leave them polished for a smooth drag.
