Title: Penn 20 International drag question????
Post by: gstours on September 12, 2014, 02:33:06 AM
Hello again out there; If anybody can help me with a frustrating problem I would sure appreciate it.   The reel is a friends older penn 20 trolling single speed internat. and I have completed a complete teardown, clean and lube. with Alan T,s help I removed the cooling shield and lubed the bearing and that went well.  NOW the problem seem to be that going past Strike, into Full it looses drag, and goes into free spool.  Seems like an easy one for some of you but Ive tryed every combination of setting and repositioning it. gs removing the drag lever countless times and repositioning it. Ive played with the (19-30) eccentric cam and the (141-30) brass cam follower by trying different positions and then reassembling ant to NO avail..........It has good freespool and the drag seems to ramp up ok to strike,,,,,, THEN after strike to full drag it seems to go over cam and loses drag  as it seems to slap the cam and follower back togather........Im at my wits end......but at least I tryed !!!!!!!!  before crying to you smart people.......Thanks for a reply....

the bearing cup is basically the cam and it has to seat in the deepest possible position.  that is the freespool position.  it only really goes in one way.   :-\

On the inside of the right side plate, there is a bearing cup that like said above, is part of the cam and all that. On the edge of that cup, there is a little notch with a little screw holding it into, and in position in, the right side plate.

Are those two parts in place and in order?
