I guess I rebuilt my Penn 349's good enough to get my first fall Bass. 36" and 24 lbs. Bring on the fall run !!! And it only took me 8 BEERS to catch it ! LOL
Nice going Captain ;), boat or surf?
Nice catch, Capt!
I'm pretty frustrated that I'm putting my boat into hibernation for the winter on Tuesday because they came late... I wish they would've called in advance ;)
Hope you have an enjoyable and plentiful fall.
Nail a cow for me, please
Dom
Nice fish. Where is "here" for you?
Bucktail, here is Raritan Bay New Jersey side. Alto Mare, I don't do surf. On my boat. 1976 , 23' SeaBird, 350hp Merc outdrive all restored. Broadway, feel your PAIN. Though I was gonna miss them too. They are late getting here this year. Gonna try and make the most of it now. Will be back out on Monday, I'll look for one for you !!!
Sorry Broadway just couldn't help myself. Just got the other pics. from my wife's phone and had to post.
Now you're talking... I'm glad someone I know is catching them for me ;)
Nice gut on that fish... What was in the belly... The usual suspects, Bunker, sand eels, eels, baby sea Robbins, baby sea bass, or baby blackfish?
Keep them lines tight,
Dom
Hey Dom. He had 1 whole bunker still alive and 2 half eaten ones. 1st one I ever got with a live bunker still in his belly. Guys a the boat yard were amazed. Hopefully the winter will be short and the spring run gets here quick for you !
Nice catch, Captain --
What was your most productive depth when trolling for those linesides?
And we're you using wire, mono, or?
Best,
Fred
Some of us are catching them all the way down here in Pensacola, FL. They stay in the bays near the brackish water close to the river mouths. Generally around 15lbs. I have never caught one myself.
That's a fat one Captain, very nice, my largest was 44". I run out of bait that day and had two guys on the boat, all I had to do was to cut him open, he had three hole bunker in him.
I'm also not a surf fisherman, but do enjoy it for a couple of weeks after the boat gets winterized.
Thanks for sharing.

You're not glad you are jealous. :D ;D
Thanks for the photos captain. Keep them coming. Dominick
Jealous and envious, Darn right! ...but I am glad to see they're back and someone I know is having fun with them.
Dominick, you know me well ;)
Go get 'em guys! ...just let the breeders go free, please.
Dom
Morning guys. It's blowin up here so no fishin today. Def going tomorrow though, supposed to be 5mph out of S.W. so should be good. Will keep in touch and let you know whats up. Hey Fred, I troll 150' of 30lb. monel wire backed by 30lb. mono with 25' 50lb. mono leader and small Bunker Spoon. I get down about 25' with this setup. With the big Bunker spoons I'm down about 30'. Seems like they are btwn 20-30' down.
Looks like loads of fun. I need to find them stripers...I haven't heard of too much coming up on this side this year.
Birds and fish busting off the beach in southern Monmouth county - but way out of reach for us surf guys :(
Nice job - was out on the Clam Beds last Friday - trolled some up on shad rigs
Nice fish you got there
RMF,
Were you out today? I think I took a photo of your boat when I boarded the Seastreak back to NYC. I took my boat in for the winter today, and boy was that hard to do. The bass were chasing the bunker for my ENTIRE trip and I had to pass them by. I guarantee that next year will be a different story because I'm not putting her away until Thanksgiving next year unless we get too cold of an early winter.
I was missed the 250PM boat out of Conner's Landing (Highlands) by 1 minute, so I waited an hour until the 345PM. I thought I saw you at 250 and 345... was that you? If not, someone stole your boat. ;)
I couldn't read the name on the boat, but it was a darn close match to yours except the bimini looks lighter in the photos?
Hope you had a good day out there, it was flawless :(
Stay well and tight lines... we'll hook up in the spring for a meet and greet on the water or maybe Bahr's Landing ;)
Dom
Hey Dom. I was out yesterday but not that far. Stayed right in the bay btwn Buglight 20 and bouy 14 on the green side. Wish I had you guys with me cause I had to throw one 37" and two 36" back fishing by myself. Did keep the 38" 22lb. one. It was a beautiful day on the water, warm and flat as a lake. Herds of Bunker so thick you could walk on them. Two friends were supposed to come but went to work instead. Dumb !!!! Oh well, gotta go work down the shore today and tomorrow but back on the water Fri. Later Guys. Richy
Nice going mrbklyn. Looks like a great day fishing. Likewise the bunker, they are all over the bay, thick as a brick. I'm surprised though, with all that bait around, they are still hitting everything we put in the water. Making for a very good Fall run. I got 3 more weeks to go, hope it lasts.
Yeah..the fall run is DEFINITLEY on!!! Buddy of mine got a 53# on Friday mourning ;D
You guys can thank me for all the big bass being caught... they knew I put my boat away so it's safe to come out. ;D
Keep catching 'em crew!

Dom, theses are for you. Sorry. One 43" 25lbs. one 36" 22lbs..
Eels? Which tide are they hitting on best? I was offered to mate on my buddy charter next week and I might just have to take him up on it to get out there.
I hate fishing with charter people... they usually "think" they know how to fish, and then I'm untangling a mess for them. >:(
I'll keep ya posted.
Nice catch, Capt!

You should try working deck on an Open Boat. I did it for almost 10 years on L.I. I can only do it now for 1-2 days I have had it after that. I also have done the Charter thing on L.I. & thought it was easier because everyone know each other & the crew eat good too. I did Charter with up to 25 people Blue Fishing. 6 Pack should be a breeze.
Mike
MrBrklyn, I'm sure you know how to fish, but it's good to let the mates help you if you're willing to learn and listen. That's how I learned.
Mike, I've done a few 6 pack charters, but never had any good food nor anyone willing to pay attention and learn. Maybe I'll get lucky some day ;)
PS- I'll pass on the open boat mating... 6 people are enough.
Stay well,
Dom
I worked 1 trip we had 4 Mates & 100 Passengers.

Hey broadway, I just want to thank you again for putting your boat up early. Got 3 more yesterday by 11:00 AM. This one's 41" 28lbs. Will be back out again this morning about 9AM. Fish are still boiling in Raritan Bay. Richy
Your very welcome... This won't happen again next year because in staying in until December. This year I had a previous obligation so I couldn't keep Her in any longer... Darn priorities!
Keep em coming,
Dom

Dom, like the man said "it is time to reevaluate your priorities." Nuff said... ::) Dominick
Dominick,
I guarantee as long as I've got my health/ breath in my lungs, I will be fishing in November next year.
I have reevaluated and my priorities are set. We can plan a trip for November so I can watch you freeze your little toesy woesy's off while I'm pulling in cows ;D
Thanks for the talking to,
Dom

Hey broadway. Just thought I'd share the pain with you from now on. Pulled my boat out this morning. Now the long depressing wait for spring. Only about 115 days till it's back in the water. Hope I don't run out of BEER till then !!!!
Rich,
Glad you nail 'em this fall... I'll be seeing you in the spring.
BTW, I launch out of Lawrence Harbor in April, but have about 3 weeks of cleaning and prepping so don't be shy and bring your buffing machine ;D
Have a nice holiday and sty warm,
Dom
Define here, Ruben. I went out yesterday from 330pm till 10pm and only one 25" bass. Used eels and went from the sandy hook rips to breezy point and all haunts in between... Romer shoals, West Bank lighthouse, Ambrose channel ledges, and about 10 wrecks I have marked. We marked dish until the sun went down and then all went dead which is rare for this time of year. The night bite is usually the hot one.
Oh well, the fall run is still young.
Keep it up with those nice fish!
Dom

I feel bad for you east coasters, I get to play in my bay all year round and never worry that my boat or anything else for that matter is gonna freeze. Only comes out for maintenance.
Reuben,
The water temp was 65 on Wednesday night, so I'd say 10 keepers for 15 people sounds bout right. We need some cooler weather to drop the temps... 53-60 works best for me this time of year.
I'll keep ya posted as I'm going out Monday, trolling with my niece and nephew and Wednesday night eeling with some friends.
Stay tight,
Dom
