Title: penn 149 gears/pinion
Post by: maxpowers on November 17, 2014, 10:10:14 PM
I wondered if anyone has been able to install the penn 149 gear set into a 501 or 99?  I wanted a slow as possible smaller rig for fishing the dropper loop.

How about a 2/0 Senator at 2.25:1?

I was hoping to keep it in the 500/501 so as to be able to carry just the right side plate to switch out from jig fishing to bottom fishing.

The gears wont fit. However if switching side plates is what you want. Then you could take a Penn 99 SilverBeach side plate with 3:1 gear ratio and swap it with the jigmaster side plate. It will fit the frame and spool of a jigmaster and then when you want to jig then swap the plate back to the jigmaster. This would be my suggestion.
