Title: 111 Gear ratio
Post by: fIsHsTiiCkS on December 15, 2014, 11:36:57 AM
Hey guys im trying to make sense of something. The 2/0 is rated for a gear ratio of 2.25:1 while the Penn 66 is rated for 2.5:1. However, both have the same main gear(5-66), pinion(13-49) and bridge(3-66). Why would the gear ratios be different?

I think Penn takes the actual numbers and often rounds them up to whatever number looks good for sales.

Scott's MysticParts lists the 85 as a 3.1 to 1, but my calculations, based on counting the gear teeth, are actually 2.35 to 1.  I wonder where they obtained that figure? ???  It's probably a typo.  I no longer agonize over this, as I generally know the gear ratios of my reels and I'm not going to worry about small differences (or even medium differences :P).

I figured it was some kind of marketing thing. The teeth show it to be 2.5
