Title: Repairing bakerlite
Post by: chicka on November 03, 2010, 07:39:20 AM
Hi All
I have basically started to collect some Penn reels such as the senator, delmar, jigmaster and peer level wind.Just love these reels!beautifully made and really well suited to targeting snapper or light game here on the Nthn.Beaches of Sydney Australia.
I received a jigmaster from the USA and the handle had some bad chips in the green bakerlite.
Is it worth repairing or can I buy a new handle?
A friend put me on to your site and I'm sure this will be the first of many questions to come down the track.
Cheers
Chicka

JMO but I'd look for another handle. Here's an ebay link for penn handles. If you can't find what your looking for now just keep looking, they change a little every day......

I agree with Roger. If you want to keep the handle genuine for the era in which it was made, look on ebay. If you want a better handle that will fill your hand better and be less cramping to your hand, upgrade the grip. You can get a new one quite often on ebay or try MysticParts - https://www.mysticparts.com/PennParts/Handles.aspx (https://www.mysticparts.com/PennParts/Handles.aspx)
Another option for a really great grip or complete handle is one of Alan's Kolekar grips. I have them in all sizes, but his 2/0 or 4/0 would be perfect for a jigmaster. See his posting in for sale > reel parts > handle upgrades - http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=158.0 (http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=158.0)

Cheers,
Rob

Here's the link to Dawn's handles:  http://smoothdrag.com/handles.html (http://smoothdrag.com/handles.html)  Very cool.  Round and T-shaped handles.  Very nice.
