Almost done. I'll update pics soon. Just wanted to post a few up and get some thoughts. I think I really like this color.

Thats pretty darn cool!
Is that coating pretty slippery stuff? Curious to hear how the yoke/jack/eccentric assemblies work (I.E. does it shift smoothly, and engage solidly?).

Thanks man! They have a different coating on them than everything else. I use microslick on the internals. It's a ceramic based dry film lubricant. Shifts and engages perfectly.
Cerakote?
Very nice work.

Thank you. Yes sir, Cerakote it is. I used a Titanium base and blended graphite black for the accent color. Frame and rings have cerakotes low gloss clear on them.
that looks absolutely SICK!!!
Who says they need a full metal reel when you can have one that looks like it.
This looks awesome! :o how are those internal parts gonna hold up with the contact points I wonder ???
Shiftee the reel looks great. Dominick

This is the first reel that I've used the microslick on so I guess we'll see in the next few months. Microslick holds up pretty well. For a frame of reference, I've got about 1,000 rounds on this bolt. They also advertise the stuff for use on performance engine components. It will eventually wear off but the original parts arent compromised in the application process so it's no big deal. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/74759557/SOC%29AlanTani/Bolt%205.56.jpg)

Thanks Bryan! I was going to pick up a set of accuplates for it. Then right when I find a set I had some unexpected car trouble come up and eat my play money. Figured I'd give these a try. I was surprised by how well they came out.
Great work Cole! :o
I'll take that off your hands if you include the grenade! ;D
You do some beautiful work Shiftee, the parts look amazing.
Sal
Seems a likely canadate for 'Photo of the month'?
Thank you all for the compliments. Always means alot coming from the guys on this forum. Like Michael Jordan telling you that you got a decent jumpshot. After all, I found this forum searching for the best place I could learn how to disassemble, modify and reassemble these reels in the first place.
Daron, haha its a great paper weight. Thought about threading it for my shift lever in the jeep but never got around to it. Been bouncing around the workbench for a few years while I try to spin up something cool to do with it. Because Cerakote is so pricey and has a two hour working window, whenever I coat something I usually prep something extra to have laying around in case I end up with excess. This time it happened to be the frag. Totally normal right? Just remember "When the pin is pulled, Mr. Grenade is not our friend."
I got a few minutes last night to do a little more work. Everything's running great. The handle still needs a coat of clear so I mocked it up for a few pics of the assembled reel. I think I might be in love with this color. To the point I may order more and redo the 113HLW to match.

Beautiful job!
Best,
Fred
Not taking anything away from your beautiful work, but I believe the screw heads would look better if they were black. Again, beautiful work, just my worthless opinion. ;D
Sal
I would like the screws black also. It will give it a contrast and look even better. I also like the way you tightened the screws. OCD for sure. I do the same thing!
Beautiful reel!
THAT IS SICK SICK SICK!!!
That's just plan beautiful. Nothing but a work of art. You can't fish those!
Cole does some fine work. ;D
I'm thinking of sending him a Big Senator to give the treatment! This guy knows what he's doing! ;)
Beautiful and very nice creativity on the coatings. Great work.
WoW!
Stunning!!
Is Cerakote similar to what Lamson label as their "Hard Alox" coatings on their range of fly-reels?
Love it! I new about the product but never thought to use it on a reel ::)

Amazing!!!!
Are you taking order requests ?! ;D
Did you use the air dry or the bake on?
:o :o :o I'm a fan for sure, nice job!
Thank you very much gentlemen.

I use the bake whenever possible. It's a bit more durable, easier with stenciling and of course there's the benefit of having parts ready to use in a couple of hours. Only time I buy the C-series (ambient cure) is for optics and high heat applications.

Haha I'll gladly do a reel here and there as long as its not an urgent request. Setting up a dedicated shop and starting a business is something we've been kicking around for awhile. So many hoops to jump through when it comes to firearms.

I don't know why they haven't combined their sites yet. They have a firearms site, which has expanded to the point that the gallery has a "not just guns" section where people have done everything from bicycles to boat props, and yet they still maintain a separate high temp site that features mostly automotive applications. Seems to me they'd benefit from combining them into one.

I'm not familiar with the coating. Is it still around? I'll have to check that out.

Thanks Daron. I'd be glad to do one of your big senators.... hmmm send it around the end of may or so and I'll get it back to you late October, early November? Maybe even a little sooner if the water temps drop to low. ;D Kidding of course, I'd be glad to do it man, just let me know.

Thanks man, I struggled with that thought but I decided I have to stick to my general house rule, "Use it or sell it, no safe-queens allowed".

Thanks guys. Definitely not taking anything away an definitely not a worthless opinion. I thought about doing the screws in black too. Nine times out of 10 I go for the contrast fastener theme. Reason I ended up going the way I did this time was that I hate Penn's flat head machine screws on the Senators. Hate Hate Hate them. I've yet to find suitable replacements for the 114 yet. Thought I'd found some a couple weeks back but they were too short, the guy had them measured in overall length instead of functional fastener length. So I went with the titanium finish hoping it would help them blend a bit and give me the illusion that they weren't there. From a distance and without the high resolution camera it kinda works. Until of course I get close enough and then I get mad all over again.
Thanks again for the kind words fellas, definitely means a lot coming from the members on this forum!
Cerakote added the 113 and 114 to their gallery today. Here's the link in case any of you guys wanna vote for them.

I have to say I am thoroughly impressed ! I have done some blast, spray and bake finishes on some guns with very good durable results. I had thought often about its use for reels. but never followed up on it. I've got a couple of beater reels I might have to experiment on... Great Job!
