Post by: TheReelGuy850 on February 05, 2015, 02:28:11 AM
Love this old reel but unfortunately during cleaning the handle broke in two :-\  I tried ebay..no luck. Then i had a friend of a friends friend who was a "machinist" take the reel and fab a handle in exchange for reel service. Well long story short it didn't fit..too large :-[  So anyone have any one?

I could cut you an arm but I would need the reel and don't really like doing handle arms.

Hey Keta, what would it cost?

Raw $6.00, matt $10.00, polished $100....actually closer to $18.00.  Raw is drilled and tapped.

Any recommendation for a good knob to mount to the arm?

Surely a penn Handle would fit. Anybody know what size the sleeve is on a Ocean City 945?

Here is a little info on the reel I pulled off of the Interweb...

"Ocean City No.945 Reel
Red side plates,  combination salt or fresh water. You had your choice of a salt water foot or a fresh water foot,  the letter F stood for fresh water foot.  The difference would be the fresh water foot would just be chrome over metal and the salt water foot would be heavy chromium over brass.  Pictures are courtesy of John Elder."

Looks like the origionsl handle was a white bakelite torpedo.  There is a small chance someone on this site could find you a stock handle assembly.

Looks like it retailed for $15

After looking at that John. Desert Cat Rat had a handle like that with a red knob on a Long Beach.
Reel Guy, Measure the flats on that sleeve. I bet a Long Beach Handle will fit.

I'll mic the flats.its a square mount and ill need to be precise to keep it from being sloppy and rounding my sleeve off.

Ahh. I see that now. No Penn's have square sleeves. Maybe a parts reel.

Most of mine don't either, just the Fathom 25N.

If I remember correctly the newer Penns with with square sleeves are the the Fathoms and Squalls. I don'd know the dimentions of a the Ocean City 945's sleeve and the newer handles may not fit the old school look of the reel but when you get it measured those may be a option if you can't find another handle. Or maybe Scott's has one.

Awesome find!

I was looking for a parts OC 112, and found one for .99 cents.    Shipping was the bad part...   but, when it got here found that it was in better shape than the reel I'm trying to fix!   lol

Believe it or not, I may have a handle that will fit your reel, in case you want a spare, since you found a reel on eBay.

It has a Black handle and the mounting hole is square . . . Also, Shimano TLD reels use square mounting holes, too !

Let me know and I'll post up a couple of pics !

Tight Lines !
