If a reel is going into a collection, and being kept in a warm dry environment, once stripped and cleaned, is it still advisable to grease it internally, like you would do for a user.

Hi Mike, I would because even in a temperature controlled enviorment there are still corrosive elements in the air. A light coat of oil & grease is added protection. The outside will be protected with a periodic coat of wax (car wax will do) RUDY
Just as a general rule of thumb for me, on a definite display reel -- I grease and oil all metal to metal moving parts lightly -- so when it is handled, the gears, etc -- will be protected. Much like the factory does fresh out of the box. I also do the screws with just a little grease to ease a possible disassembly later.
When I know the reel is to be used in the salt -- it gets the full treatment -- all surfaces inside, inside the rings, stand, stand screws and nuts, top of the bridge, inner sideplates, etc.
For me, I keep very few reels for myself -- the reels I restore are expected to go to work at some point -- and whomever cracks them open for the next service, will enjoy the protection and ease of disassembly.

Thank you for the advice, I wasn't sure if it was necessary, is it also advisable to grease the inside of the plates and under the rings for a collector reel.

Mike, I agree with the two gentlemen, but I would also place a thin coat on the inner side of the rings.
Don't wrap any reels in plastic or place them in a Ziplock bags, unless you punch a couple of holes for venting.

Thanks for that answer. I was thinking of Vacuum Sealing my Newell's. At .50 a bag thanks for the savings.

Thank you for the added info, will do.
None of my reels are wrapped, they are kept on a shelf, plenty of air circulation. I don't use plastic bags for anything, living on the coast as we do, that would be asking for trouble.
The note you sent me with the Delrin washers etc. is self explanatory, just one question, do I use a spring washer between the spacer sleeve and the star.

Mike, I don't remember what I sent you. Did I send the white Delrin belleville along with the black Delrin, or just the black?

Hi Buddy,
You kindly sent me both white and black, and as you are showing is how I understood it, you explained it very clearly for me in your note, (I am learning slowly, I have a great mentor) I just didn't know if I had to put a spring washer between the spacer and the star, thank you for the photo, now I know I will get it correct!
Bit of a busy time in the next week, but I hope to spend a day on my reels on Saturday, will take some photos.
Tomorrow we have hospital for Jan, she has to have a skin cancer removed from the side of her nose, bit of an awkward one so the surgeon says, but thankfully he is one of the better guys.
Sunday is my 65th, so it is a Beer and Food day and nothing else!!
Monday I have a medical appointment, Tuesday the car is going in for a cv joint, and on and on!! bit of a nightmare week, I will be pleased when it is over, and can get back to normality ;D
