i picked up a penn 505hs(should be here in a week or so) im guessing its stock, what aftermarket products should i add to make it a better reel

tom, you're likely going to have this reel apart a couple of times, so let's go stepwise.

first, do a complete tear down, get a light coat of grease on all the internal parts, clean out the bearings, and grease the drags.  if you have old drag washers, replace them.  now put the reel back together, get some line on it and go fish with it.  resist the temptation to get alot of aftermarket parts.   if the top of gear sleeve is damaged, i can send you a stainless steel one, or even the original brass gear sleeve. 

after fishing with it for a while, consider a handle upgrade.  after that, anything else you want, gear sleeves, gears, frames, etc., are fine, but fish with the reel a few times before adding more stuff! 

go slow!  you can spend ALOT of money if you're not careful.   ;D
