Hello,

I ran across the forum while researching the TLD-20 reel. Recently I made a purchase of (6) TLD-20's which all appear to be functioning properly.
This forum has already opened my eyes as to what I have purchased. Four (4) are made in Japan and (2) are made in Malaysia.
My goals are to learn to break down these reels, service these reels, and upgrade these reels as $$ allows.
I look forward to learning.

Howdy Neighbor.  Good to have you aboard.  The place to start is to take your first one apart.  Go slowly and place the parts in a row so that you can put them back in the reverse order.  When you have your parts lined up take a picture so that you can move the parts around as you clean them.  If you run into trouble we will help.  Dominick

welcome!!!!!

you picked an expensive reel for your first rebuild.  the canvas drags in these single speed shimanos do not hold up very well. the carbontex drag washer from smoothdrag.com is really the way to go, but at $19 it's a little expensive.  there is also a belleville and shim washer that i use to hot rod these reels a little. send me a pm and i'll toss them in an envelope to you.  i'm sure you've seen the bearing work that needs to be done. and lastly, the handles.  there are several people that make handle arms, i have one as well.  they make a huge difference.  good luck and let us know what we can help with!
