Title: News from KenD
Post by: Marcq on March 14, 2015, 02:05:36 AM
in case you didn't know

E-mail from Ken's daughter:
Hello Family and Friends,
I'm sending a mass e-mail as I'm finding it difficult to keep up with everyone individually.
My Dad is doing GREAT! The challenges he's overcome since the stroke(s) in August 2014
are absolutely amazing.
He truly is a success story!
Since being admitted to the rehab center in Prince George, some major goals have been
achieved; he's eating by himself, walking short distances with a walker, learning to hand
write again, his speech has improved tremendously, but most important: His spirits remain
high and he's determined to recover!! We were told in September that he probably
would never walk again, and would be in a wheelchair. Wow, we sure showed them, didn't
we?!!
He couldn't have done it without all the love and support from our family and friends. I
often tease him, that he has more friends than I do.
Although he's doing exceptionally well, he still has challenges to face, and the road to
recovery will be long. Additionally, his right shoulder is still "frozen" and should unthaw as
time goes on, and he continues to exercise the muscles.
Unfortunately, his time at the rehab center is coming to an end on April 7th. It's not for lack
of progress or goals being achieved, it's because the healthcare system has indicated that
he's over-stayed the "time limit" of in-patient rehab care.
Why? because there are 45 people on the waiting list for the 35 bed rehab unit. so they are
pushing him out. I was able to extend his stay by one month, as they were going to
discharge him in March. On my last meeting with the care team, I was told that they will
not be extending his stay past April.
So he will be discharged to the Smithers hospital, to continue what little therapy they
provide, and work towards transitioning home. There is some concern from the care
team that he may never be independent.. but I say: Never say never! Of course, he won't
be independent immediately, but as time goes on and he continues therapy, I believe he will
achieve his independence.
I will continue to send updates as time permits, and keep everyone posted.
Until then, thank you allagain for your support and well wishes.

Sincerely,
Sherry

Get well Ken

Marc..

I didn't know, no wonder I haven't seen him around on the site.
I'm glad he's doing better.
Good news!

Yes, I too was dismayed to hear this. I had no idea, even if I had noticed his absence lately. Not at all long ago I recommended him as a fact-checking source for a fellow writing a book about ABU reels. Little did I know...

Nevertheless, it seems as though things are on the mend; I'm glad to hear that.

That certainly is encouraging news. All the best to your dads recovery.
