Welcome.  It is my understanding the Azores have a lot of life in their offshore waters, and I imagine there is a dedicated fleet of fishermen plying those waters.  It's great to hear you have been able to use this forum as a resource to msintain your rerls.  It surprises me, a bit, that there are no local tackle shops.  Maybe there is the possibility of a reel repair buisness opportunity there for you?  In any case, enjoy your stay, and don't be shy about asking questions, if any should arise.  We are all here to help one another.

Hi Paulo, and Welcome --

What type of tackle (reels and rods) are you using?

If any help or parts may be needed -- just let us know.

Best,

Fred

Thank you all!

Yes, we have a great shore for fishing around here, we are 9 islands, and only 1 doesn't have a fleet of professional fishermans.
In my island we have a lot of bottom fishing and trolling, and more recently an increase of popping and jigging with great results.

We have a lot of groupers (small, medium and large ones :D), guellys and amberjacks (last week some 30 or 40kg greater aj caught from some friends of mine), cudas, bluefish, wahoos, etc etc...

And mostly in the summer, we caught BigEye tuna, YFT, skipjacks and YFT.

In my island, Santa Maria Island, we have 2 nice fishing stores, but when we have any problem with our reels, they have to be shipped to Portugal mainland to an Authorized Dealer of that specific reel brand...so...maybe 2 or 3 weeks waiting, and sometimes thats not enough.
Curious as i am, i believed that i was able to make my own reel maitenance (reel maitenance is not a priority of the most anglers i know around here....), and i am having some kind of sucess til now :)
Maybe theres is really a business oportunity ;)

Best,

Fred

A inshore spinning rod with a TwinPower5000SW, for jigging Saragosa18000F and stella 20000SW on Barros Monster 50lbs rods, for popping a XZoga taka pi 7710 with a stella 30000SW and for trolling i have a tiagra 50W lrs and a tyrnos 50-80 rod.

Recently sold my 2 tiagras 80W to buy some new popping and jigging gear...80Ws are overkill for me, too much for my 21ft cc boat :)

(sorry about my english, is not my first language :))

Don't worry, you are clear with what you are posting.  If you weren't we would ask questions to make sure we are understanding.
