I just finished up the annual tear down and cleaning. All shined up and ready to go for the season. Not too bad for a well used and abused 30 year old reel.
Can any of you Newell experts tell me how long they use the red insert labels? I've not come across another reel like it, and I think the red labels look great. My dad bought this circa 1985 +/- 1 year.

I have the matching 338 and Gregg Chow told me that color scheme was the done the first year of the G series. Really nice looking reel and if you ever get tired of it send me a PM since I have a little space in my closet.
Nice looking reel ... thanks for sharing.

Yup, the red badge inserts were installed on the G's during early production runs. One can duplicate the look by applying some Krylon spray paint. Though certainly not original, I did this to a couple of my P's. It's easy enough to change back to black if needed.
Yep, easy enough to paint them red. I need to touch up the badge on the front bar... there's not much paint left on it. I didn't realize it was only the first production year of the G-series that were red. But it makes sense because I have its black badged twin that was purchased about a year later too.
Unfortunately, Newell Nut, I'm not sure I'll ever get tired of it. For the first time, after years of maintaining the original Newell drag washers, then Super Smoothies, and then eventually dry HT-100's, I finally gave in this year and greased up the drags... I should have done this years ago... wow! :)
Keep it clean and the grandkids will be using it one day.
Great Looking Reel Eric! Its cool that it was your Dad's.
