Title: Daiwa Saltist LD35 2-speed - one busted screw on the dog cover - suggestions?
Post by: Jon_Kol on May 05, 2015, 08:05:05 PM
Hi everyone!

I was sent a really salty Daiwa Saltist LD35 2-speed. I just opened the reel, and it's looking quite beat up inside. However, I've run into a problem. One of the screws that hold the dog (and/or dog cover plate) got busted as soon as I used the tool on it. The other screw came out without any trouble. Now I'm in a bit of trouble - how the heck to get this screw out?? It's so small and the metal it's made of is so soft. No idea as to why it's so stuck.

Please let me know what you think, here's a picture:

Hope to hear from you, and fingers crossed that this is possible to fix.. :-/

Maybe try ising a quality screw extractor after drilling a small set hole, and sum penetrating oil and heat.  The other option (short of drilling it out carefully with a drill press and retapping), is to cut a notch in it and the weight with a drenal cutting disc, then rotate the entire weight with screw counterclockwise to loosen.

Good luck!
