Not a click yet. The weather is awesome and the beer is cold! ;D Made a couple 300 yard drops last night with whole mullet and bonita. The crabs didn't even want it. :-\
Good luck Daron!
waiting for the pics of the toothy creature you will catch.
The calm before everything brakes loose 8)
Marc..
Get one of those 12-14' Critters if you get a smaller one use it for bait.
Mike
good luck
G'luck Daron,
Hoping you get a monster... And make the wife tailrope it. ;D
Go long with those drops, get into clear water outside the bar with a big fresh bait.
I'm rooting for you, you're due man.
This is so frustrating.
I'm only an hour & a half away and can't figure a way free from things already on the calendar.
End of season baseball games, Mother's Day and household budget... C'mon honey, this is LBSF.
Nope.
very nice i get my chance in two weeks at OBX
Go get'em Daron ;), give it some time, they're just intimidated by your gear ;D....good luck!!!
That sand is beautiful and the water is inviting sooner or later the fish will be biting--------------<*}}}}}><

daron my friend, have a great time, it looks beautiful there, enjoy.

If you can't easily remove the hook, you either cut the hook for easy removal or cut the leader as close to the hook as possible.
Speed is a necessity in getting sharks back into the water alive.

Daron,
the Blues are running strong right now, get a bait rod out there... Our Big Hammer took a fresh Blue.
Good luck. Hope you are successful but either way it is good for the mental health.
What is funny is that when you are out on the boat fishing for other species and a Shark comes along, you get pissed off, and wish it would go away. But sometimes sitting on a lonely stretch of beach in a lawn chair you are hoping that same Shark finds your bait. Enjoy your holiday.
may i suggest a brown paper bag full of chum + a brick.
drop it besides your bait
good luck
Good luck Daron! I'd probably do like John said, put a bait 2 to 300 yds out. I'd put one close in the first drop off. You would be surprised what swims close in sometimes. :o Shame on the shark that takes one of your baits, your gear is not going to fail. We need pics when you land one. Bob

whoa. Big hooks!
I only use 16/0 & 20/0 for dedicated shark leaders.
This is a 20/0 hook, yeah, big hooks for big baits and big sharks.
Thats not a big hook....
This is a big hook....
Dats a big hook :o
gotta get that bait in the dark blue water
Daron,
holler at me, I can come over and fish with ya tonight.
Just have to make it home for church in the AM.
I'll see ya in a couple hours John. I've been baitfishing every day with a 9500 and a big ugly stick loaded with 100lb braid and a 4 oz pyramid sinker. Pinfish, cut mullet and shrimp.
Get back to fishing, I want to see some sharks.
Good Luck Daron, Sure can't beat the scenery in your opening pic. I managed to whack a few mangos today and my wife did good on the vermilions.
John showed up this afternoon. I had some killer bait from Keith. Whole Blackfin Tuna! I also had some Bonita. John jumped in my yak and started paddling to Cuba! The leader got wrapped around the back of the kayak and I had to reel it right back in. John carried my leader all the way back to shore after a 500 yard drop! Its the nature of this sport, and it is not easy.
John brought a young man with him. His name was Kale. He had never been in a Kayak before, but John and me showed him the way. The waves and current are tough in Navarre, but I know this beautiful beach has some hidden Monsters lurking just off shore.
He dropped a Big Tuna Head about 300 yards out and then a Bonita head on my rod a little further.
Now the waiting game. I've been here a week already with nothing to show, except for enjoying the nice weather and shelling.
After about four hours, Johns rod takes off. Its the Tuna. He immediately tells me to Harness up, I do and I latch on to this shark. It doesn't feel that big until I get it closer to shore, and it was pissed!
7 and half foot scalloped Hammer Head. Thank You John! I know you did this just to help me out, and I appreciate it more than you know!
I locked the drag down and my wife held onto me. His 12/0 seems to have a little more umph than what I'm used to. Thanks again John, Kala and Nathaniel. Til'
next time my brothers!

Daron, please have your wife email pics and video to me at chilerelleno@comcast.net
Daron,
as always a pleasure to meet up with you and do some sharking/fishing.
And it was very nice to meet your wife and son, adding Mike to the bunch and you're a lucky man to have such a family.
Tell your wife "Thank You" from me again for the hospitality.
Man you've been due a good shark, when I felt that strong, fast run, I knew you needed it.
You do so much for others it is only right that it comes back around to you, and I'm happy to share.
Great shark, lots of fun, good fight, did NOT want to come over the sandbar, heh heh heh, wife had to keep her ol'man from getting dragged to Davey Jone's Locker.
Felt very good to get a fast catch, tag & release, and watch this shark swim off very strongly... Heck Yeah!
I can only wish we'd caught more and/or bigger fish, other than that what a beautiful day.
Any time my Bro, I'll happily fish with you anytime.
Shark: Scalloped Hammerhead, male, TL-7.5', approx weight 150-175#
Rod: Penn International V, turbo guides.
Reel: Penn 12/0 spooled with 1000 yards of 100# Sufix Superior mono.
Bait: Blackfin Tuna head, dropped about 350-400 yards out.
Fight lasted about a half hour, fish was tagged for NOAA's Apex Predator Program and released, it swam off very strongly.

Nice sharks, congratulations Daron.
good stuff
Great job gentleman and lady, nice pictures. There is nothing like the friendship of fellow fisherman. Always nice to have the youthful help too. It's really great to see everyone involved, you all should be proud of yourselves.
Great catch Daron, Looks like everyone had a great time and the team work is really cool.
NICE!!!!
Very nice Daron, I did have a feeling this was your time. Half hour fight wasn't bad on that shark, our upgrades are doing their job.
Congratulations bud! ;)
What an awesome grinner! Way to go... and I love that Mrs. Shark had to help out, too. Great teamwork! :D

I too knew Daron was due, and I was thrilled to hold onto that rod till he could gear up .
No upgrades on this 12/0 other than an extended arm and a kolekar handle.
Brand new 12/0 with standard 7 stack of ht-100s.
Shark couldn't pull drag when locked down... But he could pull Daron ;)
Here is that Video of the release. Photobucket was processing it all night! Thanks Everyone! It was Awesome!

He isn't done yet, still has 7-8 days to fish.
Go get'em Daron, I want to see a 10' or bigger shark on your hook.
Put a whole tuna out 500 yards, one hook in the nose and a stinger in the tail.
Think positive vibes and I'll get Kael to pray another shark up for ya.
Daron is the man in many ways. Great job on the shark. If that was my wife she'd be pushing not holding. ;D

Daron What a nice fish. Gotta put the time in. Just goes to show what perseverance will get ya. Can't think of a better sharker out there that I would like to see get tight on a nice fish like that. Congratulations.

I'm not sure if my wife would help me... or the shark :-\

Good job FariƱa.
I neveras lose the faith
Nice work Daron! Looks like a nice shark, finally gotta use that harness. It's all about the bait. Good luck!
Great stuff mate, good to hear he swam off strong!
Nice catch, and even better that it swam off strong!

I have prototypes that need testing, I want to see a 14 footer on one of darons reels ;)
Me too!
I caught that Saturday night. I had to take the wife out Sunday. The waves were crashing at four feet on the Beach yesterday.
Honestly, I owe that fish to John. I still have the rest of the week. I have to treat the wife and my boy to some time rather than me fishing every day and drinking beer. I will keep you posted.
I would really like to get into some Blacktips this evening.

In Oregon we have much better beer, some made 1/2 mile from my place and will never be in a bottle or can.
My buddy got a nice 8 footer today on the party boat. Had the hook just perfect in the corner so not to cut the 60 mono. He was soaked in sweat when that battle was over. Don't know what kind other than dark grey top and white underside.
Daron we went out fishing Saturday and there was a huge shark in out chum slick. I thought of you..! We had to move b/c he would eat half of our Amberjack.
Daron, you fought that beast of the briny deep to the shore, the team simply helped get it on/off the hook.
Take care of the family, and you'll find time to put some more on the sand.
I'll say it again.
Rig a whole tuna, hooked nose & tail and drop that at least even with the end of the pier... Then drink beer & be patient, they'll bite.
C'mon show us a 10' or better. ;)
Daron
We need you up here right away with your gear. There is a 16' Great White swimming off of Fire Island.
PLEASE HELP UP US

Great Hammer Shark Hunter, well done
Very nice! Looking forward to more pictures. Even if you don't catch a ton of fish/sharkys, relaxing time with the family is what vacation is all about! Those family pics are priceless, wall hangers for sure.
Have a blast!
With all the swimmers, I have to wait until evening to get a bait out. I had three pickups, but they were dropped. Short fast runs. Black tips for sure. Around 8:30, we were swarmed with some kind of flying insect. The wife ran back to the room. I held out for another half hour, but they were getting in my nose and ears and I was outta beer. At least they didn't bite thank goodness.
lucky you can fish from the shore. :( :'(
Remember last year,
we got swarmed off Chickenbone by some type of flying beetle.
Looked a little like firefly's, but no fire, and thankfully no bite.
Try J hooks or trebles on those BTs.
G'luck!
great job folks and well deserved!!!!! can that view with a cold one while you wait!!!!
These bugs were different John, they were almost like a worm with wings. Once they landed, they shed their wings and were crawling all over you. It didn't bother me that much, but The wife went running before the full barrage came on. As long as I'm not getting bit, I can deal with bugs. Its part of the adventure. ;)
I have two days left, its all or nothing now. I am really glad you came down and gave me the pleasure of catching that beast. You know how short handed I am. I'm not making excuses, but without another strong back, it makes it tough. I went out with a pompano rig this evening and didn't even get it wet.
My Son's shelling took priority.
That Hammer was my Personal Best thanks to you, but that whole Blackfin on a 500 yard drop should call in a Leviathan.
Being on the beach beats being home any day.
My pleasure Daron,
you deserve it for all you do for others, and were overdue.
I had two goals that night, put a nice fish in your hands and put one on the beach for Kaelten to experience.
Very happy to see everything work out right... For once. 8)
Kaelten is still crowing about his sharking trip, he might get to come out with me on the 4th.
You put a whole one out deep and double hooked, I'll call Kaelten and have him pray again, you're sure to hook a monster.
I'm back home and I let you guys down again. That is the only shark I caught.
My hands were tied on this trip. I am just happy to have caught that one. It was a rush! ;D
maybe if I would have did less of this.
and more of this. ;D
Not a let down at all! Family vacation is about priorities and shelling with the kiddo is top priority. You certainly look relaxed, also another very important part of vacation! I'm slowly learning these lesson's the longer I'm in the 'work force', haha.
No one was let down, Daron --
We appreciate you taking is along --
Like they say -- that is why they call it fishing, instead of catching.
You had all of your priorities straight.
Thank You...
Best,
Fred
loving the white sand.. pretty much like can-cun
the sand on my beaches are kind of muddy and full of small rocks its really hard to stick a pike more than 10"
thats why I have to go with something like this
(http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa198/alextellofotos/fishing/P1020834f_zps45a40690.jpg) (http://s202.photobucket.com/user/alextellofotos/media/fishing/P1020834f_zps45a40690.jpg.html)
now, I wish I have at least one shark on my list of captured species.
Like Fred said you let no one down, hey it a vacation you are supposed to relax 8)
No let down here either.
We've caught at least one nice shark every time we've fished together.
I am sorry to hear that Mike had to cancel their trip.
Don't feel that sorry for him. He caught a 20" bass last weekend on an ultra light reel. Him and his wife are kayaking the freshwater and catching some fish.
I found this pic of you and me the wife took. :D She is getting the big tongue in that one. I wish that beserker rod would have went off. There is a ton of Hardware in that beast.
You were right about giving the old man a workout, I was just concentrating on getting him in as quick as possible. I actually felt out gunned with a 12/0. Next trip out, I'm fishing the 14/0 that I didn't even get wet again! I think with that bigger spool and capacity, It will just take some winching. I realize now that I need to upgrade to a wider plate with more padding. My legs were bruised where that plate was riding. I felt it the next day.
Thanks again John. I owe you one Brother. ;)
The picture of you fighting that HH shows it all. You have a strange grimes on yer face and lots of sweet. No shame there, just plain JOY!!
fantastic daron what can be said, great family, good company, fishing and relaxation, gets no better. take care my friend

That 12/0's internals are 100% factory stock and that 2:1 gear ratio really makes you work for every yard of line, not to mention gaining line on a fish that comes at you.
Would love to see Alan make some 2.8:1 or even 3:1 stainless gears for these old school workhorses.
Oh but for the money for an Everol 14/0 ;)
Since you brought it up John. I've had this reel for two years on my night stand. Maybe next May, It will be time to get her wet. High speed is 3:1, Low is 1.6:1. With the size of the spool, I'd say it would make life a lot easier. ;) I just need a rod to put her on. Probably another Bezerker.
You can clearly see the lines on the spool that correlate to the drag numbers on the lever.
This is a serious reel that can handle the biggest Sharks from Shore.
