Sara's out of town in AZ at the moment, and her quasi-grandparents-in-law that live next-door to her pop asked her, "so, are you looking to buy any rods or reels?"
Turns out it's just one of each, both purchased new in '89: a Penn 114H and a shakespeare graphite composite tidewater rod, 6'6", 40lb class, rollers at tip and gathering. Still has the box / tools for the reel, tube for the rod. Seems he bought this for AZ catfishing because too much is never enough. Used twice, per his memory, and only in freshwater.
questions because these are out of my norm:
Any idea as to the value of these? I'm seeing between $50 and about $100 and change on ebay sold listings for the reel, about half that on the rod, does that seem about right?
Were I to get this, what would I be targeting? Seems overkill for what I normally do: kayak fishing for up to halibut in the SF bay, pier and surf for crab (snares)/ stripers and the like.
If I weren't to get this, would anyone here be interested in either of these (should be getting pics later today)?
Thanks,
Ron
Reel, I would say anywhere between $75 and $125 for USA NIB type condition...it depends on the time and season.
For BAY area fishing, this would be great for Albacore runs (if they ever get in close enough).
Ron, it's not clear what the asking price is. If you can both for $125 and under jump on it. Dominick
I would offer $100 for the combo. That's a deal you could flip if its too much reel for you. JMO
Ron, the way I approach a private sale is to find approximate eBay value then subtract 20%........The reason for this is when I sell something on that website the total cut they take is almost 20%. That includes listing fees, picture fees, final value fees and pay pal fees. I think Shark Hunter hit the right number that is good for both buyer and seller.

Yep, no asking price has been determined, so just trying to figure out what to offer, or what the jump threshold is if he comes up with a price on his own.
Thanks for all the input everybody, I'll let you know what happens!
