Title: Neat and Simple Tackle Storage & Organizer
Post by: foakes on June 03, 2015, 04:15:53 PM
Got this in the email this morning, from one of my woodworking suppliers -- Rockler.

The plans are available on the site for $7.95 -- or it seems simple enough to just use this as a concept.

Seems like a few folks on here could use something like this -- or modify into a little different idea.

Good use of space -- attractive and secure.

Best,

Fred

I built a rack to hold my rods then showed my wife and she said that's not too smart. Why is that dear? One, two... 26, do you realize how many rods you have? Oh yeah, now you can easily count them.  But keep in mind that there are still more over there in the corner! I've added another 20 or so since then. It was a good thing that she really didn't care.

Probably would not work for me either -- but I just thought that someone with a cabin or an apartment might get an idea or two from this.  Being a little bit of a woodworker -- I was impressed with the simplicity, storage, and hinged compartment.

Most of us have a few more rods -- but this may work for someone.

Best,

Fred

Coreect me if I'm wrong, but those rod holders appear to be 3 deep...looks to me like there is plenty of room for another row or 2?

Yes,

That is 2" schedule 40 PVC -- easy enough to add another couple of rows -- but there are 300+ right now -- should just keep it at 300 and sell a few.

Rods are a hassle.

Best,

Fred

foakes - YOU ARE MY HERO!~

Seriously, I have a bunch of rods but I cleaned out what I call #### rods and reels - stuff that I might have used years ago but now would never  - kept a few to share with friends who only fish occasionally but just bought stuff that I like to use (unfortunately I have really expensive tastes in rods) and for each application,

Heck I even dumped most of the boats rods and just have a 10 rod  trolling spread for tuna and a few spinner, etc.

What do you possibly need 300 plus rods for?  And I bet you only use 20-50 of them ever

"... a 10 rod  trolling spread for tuna..."

You must be one of the crazy Nor'easter fishermen.

To me... anything more then a 5 rod tuna spread and you are just looking from trouble.  What happens when you hook up to 5 monster tuna all running in difderent directions?  I mean anythimg more then a double on large fish, and you've got your hands full.  Not saying a 10 jig spread wouldn't look enticing from below though.  Some West coast Albacore guys like big spreads too.  I spent some time on a commercial jig boat where running 30 jigs was no problem.  But these were Albacore, on hydaulic pullers.  I can always pick out someone hailing from the northeast cause they like running big trolling spreads.  The southeast transplants keep it simple.

Tuna here is a little more tricky and the bite is not what you have - while we have the occasional "epic" trip - we mostly search for our two or three fish average.

We actually have a standard 10 rod spread of two bars, two chains, a large bird teaser WWFB a flippy floppy in the shotgun and meat or single lures everywhere else.

If we get into a huge bite we reduce the number of rods

As far as what we do with multi hook ups - we dance them around and take bigger fish 1st is any  - BFT or YTF are usually good for us as they go down for the most part once hooked.  The Mahi can be a problem as the will tangle the lines unless we get jump quick and reel hard

NEED?  What is this "need" you speak of?   :D
