Something seen in firearms enthusiast circles is called a "Bubba". Generally, it's when an often (but not always) poorly skilled individual does a bit of "Southern Engineering" to modify a firearm to better fit their needs...an act which makes a purest, or historical collector break out in hives, and sometimes gives Gunsmiths headaches. Aside from mixing and matching Penn parts to narrow a reel, and whatnot...which really isn't the same thing...it's something I haven't seen here on AT. Or maybe I just haven't found it yet? Anybody else know what I'm talking about? Post your pics! Let's see your best "Bubba"! Here's a good example I just spotted on fleaBay:
Somebody's Bubba.

Here's a old school bubba I found at a garage sale. High tech real seat and custom thread work. It's still in one piece so I guess this bubba was worth the effort. It's one of my favorite pieces. Joe
Can't see anything speshul bout them first ones....all mine are like at.
Now the rod...man, thass either rat tan or tonking kane...reel collectors piece that.
Will need to dig a bit to find a Bubba round back of the shed. ;D
Might be somethin under the carport?
I knew I had something.
Penn Power handle next to the "improved" Bubba Power handle.
Came on a 209.
Some plastic tube with a string wrap coated in epoxy, I guess.
Still has the green Bakelite knob inside the tube. ;D
Some good ones so far!

HA! Seve-O!
"Necessity is the mother of invention", or so they say.
And I always thought Bubba was the guy you didn't want to share a prison cell with.
Data werk!

None to speak of...that is to say, I don't remember any commentary. And try as I might, I still can't relocate it! Sheesh!

Right, Sledge, I just found it, too. They're beautiful hand-crafted art pieces, for show rather than function. Hardly in the "Bubba" category, LOL :D

Well now, Bubba do what he do because he has a need. He fill that need with his ingenuity and a "make do" attitude! Bubba need a new fishin reel? Bubba take a block o' wood and his whittlin knife, and in a little while he got a reel! Hehe! Some Bubbas are more skilled than others.
Is there no limit to Bubba's ingenuity? To his resourcefulness?
...to his ability to take something good and muck it all up?

Actually, I hate to admit it, that folding lawn chair on the pink, foam insulation floats gave me a couple of ideas . . .
a mini patio boat I am glad I didn't see that sooner I had 4 large foam blocks left over from a dock project they would have made a great raft platform
I have a friend who works for a pvc pipe manufacturer.
Back in the late 90's my brother Scott got a hold of 3 , 20 foot sections of cull (out of spec) of 10 " pipe from my buddy.
We proceded to put together the nicest Huck Finn raft you have ever seen.
The raft was a fixture for many years in the Kings River up above Pine Flat Lake by the rafting camps.
Many, many good Bubba adventures......
Here's a couple ;D
HA! Those are awesome!
I like the table really clever
