I did not know sturgeons even lived in Fl and did not know they were a hazard and now reading about a Fl family that got hammered by one.

a real horrible shame a young child killed like that, it was a freak incident but the loss is unbearable for the parents

I haven't been on the Suwanee for many years, but I think I remember there had been warning signs at the boat ramps. The friend that I fished with kept his boat on a lift there. He always cautioned me to stay behind the console until we were offshore.

What a tragedy, only 5 years old...
I looked at the FWC link and the map showing past strikes and this happens a lot. I am surprised that I have never heard of it before and I live here but on the other side of the state.
Just an extremely sad thing to happen to any family.
