Title: penn 16vs to 16vsx
Post by: dmdfish on July 31, 2015, 09:22:05 PM
First post here guys although this forum has got me out of many a jam. I picked up a penn 16vs from a friend SN G04XXXX. I was curious as to if I can upgrade the drag to match the 16vsx output? It appears that the only parts different with the vs and vsx are the clutch spring (18-16vs) and shims (154-16vs). Would this be a simple swap of the original clutch springs? I also noticed on the updated schematic that penn recommends changing the original ratchet to part number 81-16vs and spacing sleeve 9-16vs. Would it be a good idea to replace these parts as well?
Thanks
Jasin

Although, I have not worked on one of these, I would assume the cam itself would also need to be changed.  It is likely steeper in the VSX.  A call to Penn would clear this up for you.
