Title: Penn 6/0 Funky Cranking and Freespool!!
Post by: gstours on August 05, 2015, 03:53:15 PM
The other day a friend brought over a newer style Penn 114h made in China.  He said the freespool was poor and it didnt want to crank in line very well.  This guy fishes a lot, and has caught many large fish with it.
So I took it apart and found out some interesting things.  First the clicker side was chock full of grease,  wow I thought!

And after looking at the crank side it was bone dry?  Maybe a china sabbatoge deal?
Then looked under the main gear/jack plate and there were no bearings?

I guess they are in the ocean somewhere!  So that seemed like a clue to this guys complaints!

I had this side bearing from an earlier reel in stock, so I removed the cup and greased the bearing after removing 1 side shield.
and reassembled the reel.  It seems ready for more fishing adventures now.

I want to thank everyone that has ever posted a repair on Alans Site.  You all help others find solutions and help some of us that are not tinkerers to "take it apart"  Inquiring minds are not Idle minds.   It was a quick fix and made my day.
