I have fished the Sierra Nevada for over 50 years.
I have targeted German Browns for a majority of that time.
Tough fishing.
Saturday , noon, biggest Natural German Brown of my life, on 4 lb test.
15-20 min fight that felt like a hour!
I did not start filming until we were done,.
Ended up 19-20 inches, released to grow up!

well done!!!!!
Thanks Alan!
Absolutely Stellar Day!
We need to get you up here ;D
Nice fish!
Our NZ Rainbows are originally from your home waters, though our Browns were British stock via Tasmania - all done back in the 19th Century.
Thanks for sharing.
Great Job on that Brown Swimmer! Thanks for taking us along.
Great catch,I can see why you were pumped. What makes it a greater experience is the fact that you were sportsman enough to release that wonderful fish.
Joe
theswimmer!
Where are you? Location looks to be lower elevation, below 3,000' if I were to guess!
Wayne
Hey Wayne,
About 9000 feet,no standing trees in the stream bed as it floods during spring runnoff.
That water is about 38-40 degrees F.
And just about as far as you can go into the Sierra's with a vehicle.
Nicely done... great job!
Hey Jon --
That looks like one of the feeders into Edison (Mono Creek) -- or below, if the altitude is off a bit?
Or the South fork of the San Joaquin around Florence -- not high enough, though.
But if you are driving there to 9000' -- around Edison maybe?
Don't think Courtright has much flowing into it right now.
Not many places to drive to in this fourth year of drought that would hold Native Browns with water flowing.
Nice catch -- nice release.
Best,
Fred
Son of a Biscuit... that's a nice fish you caught, swimming in some bath tub-clear water.
Nice job,
Dom
Thanks everyone for the nice reply's.
I don't even touch trout if I plan on releasing them. I know that a fish that size in that water is probably 7-8 years old at least .
The big charge for me is a gentle release and hope I get to see him again someday.
Maybe he will be a 24 incher then!

Redsetta Your country is on the list!
No longer planted by the state in California,
German Brown trout, originally from Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia, were introduced into California in 1893.
I would love to catch a Rainbow in NZ.
Here is a cool article about Browns.

Beautiful. Look at that water...so clear.
I think you need an under water camera...that was the swimmer of a trout.

theswimmer! Man did I horf on that one! We've GOT to spend a day fishing this fall if you have time! Sept. in the high Sierra's, I'M IN!
Leaving tomorrow for the upper Rogue River, Shady Cove, OR, will post trip photos when I return.
Wish me luck,
Wayne
Hey Good Luck Wayne!
You should have a chance at some early fall run Kings and Summer 'Heads should be going strong.
Have a great time. Have a safe trip.
I am going back on Friday the 21st of Aug. for 3 days in the same area.
Can Not Wait!
Very nice brown, I would have ate him.
Congrats on fooling that brown. I used to drive a route thru the Sierra's and used to cross this narrow stream that was filled with them. All about 12-13". Except Mogambo.... he was huge! I spent a lot of my lunch breaks parked next to that stream trying to trick him.
Had him on for about 3 seconds once, forgot to set the hook. I never tried again. I just figured he wasn't going to be stupid twice. And just so awesome to see him come out from under the bank once in awhile.
I got to fish from Fresno to Angels Camp and Sacramento everyday. I wish my job was so simple again. I used to stop and grab a couple of catfish for my boss once in awhile too, so he was ok with it.

Ya Rancan,
Still a lot of unexplored area above Angels Camp..... You probably know where I mean ;D
I don't think most people completely understand how wary a wild/native brown is. I used to fish a stretch of the Upper Kings where the average Wild Brown was probably over 28 inch's but Nobody ever caught one
I have a job that is very flexible and I can often do as I wish as long as my Sat Phone works!
I still travel Cali from end to end and carry many different rigs depending where I will be that week.
I have a VERY understanding owner!
Thanks for the nice comments......
Best
JT
Thanks for stirring up some memories.
And yes it was Angels Camp area. I'm so glad I wasn't alone admiring them bad boys!
