Title: FINNALY LAKE POWELL
Post by: HOLEINTHEWATER on October 16, 2015, 11:30:48 AM
TOM IS DOING BETTER, MADE A TRIP TO POWELL.
Left Black Canyon City around 3:30 PM Friday. Out of Flagstaff some one dropped bales of hay on the road. After dodging cars and trucks,we hit one of the bales with the trailer. It is a triple axle. We stopped at   Cameran to get fuel for the truck. Front wheel left side gone sheered off lung bolts. Kept speed down, Got to Page after 8 PM.  WE decided, can't do anything know , worry about it Tuesday. Launched Toon headed for Warm Creek for the night.
NOW FOR THE FISHING.
Headed for Padres first thing looking for boils, nada. Started fishing just before the short cut. 2 dinks right off the bat. Headed to Last Chance , I can always catch a few.  Long story short , the only two fish we put in the boat the rest of the day , including cat fishing that night.
Next morning head for West Canyon. We started catching a few, but all dinks and most came off before we got them in the boat.
OK next ROCK CREEK.  Ran into couple guys(Brian and ?) ,  that have been camped in there scene Thursday ,  said fishing has been real tough, the hole time.  Look at their poles same stuff I've been using.
Head for the bank across from Friend Ship and fish it. Tom is catching small fish throwing a small crank.  He catches 15 , i get  5 on my plastics. Next morning fished the same area only a few.  fished Friend Ship nada.
That afternoon  West Canyon and head out in the long shallow areas  that head  out into the channel. Started fishing drop shot in 15 to 30 feet of water. Every time you would find  a depth change we would start catching some nice fish. Got 20 + smallies and few largemouth.
Tuesday morning decided to fish Greager Bute  in Last Chance. Started fishing those shallow areas that come out into bay.
10 ft TO 20 ft Drop Shoting  caught 15 to 20 fish in an hour. 1  TO 2 lb LM. 1 to a 3.2 lb SM.
Had to head back to see if we could get the trailer fixed. O'Rieales  had the parts we needed .

Thanks for the report and pics.  I would really like to fish those famous boils!  Do they allow you to overnight on your boat?

I went back to the local lake yesterday and had a day similar to your first.  Two stripers and a big smallie.

great to hear you got on the water and on the fish.....bummer about the hay bale incident.  As much as hay costs, you'd think the rancher would strap it down.
