Title: Quantum IR420CX Iron - need parts
Post by: Lunker Larry on October 30, 2015, 05:30:31 PM
Have a Quantum Iron IR420CX with a broken drive shaft and cannot find parts anywhere. Hoped to find some on a shelf in all the repair depots I know of but have had no luck. The pinion and drive gear could also be replaced.
Parts needed are:
Crank Shaft - NV008-01
Pinion - LV011-01
Drive Gear - LV012-01

Also came across something on the schematic that said: (has a hollow square) = the reel was modified after D8 (4-98) to allow bigger 1-way clutch. Previous reels need all these parts if replacing an original part: no original parts.
The original drive shaft is 8mm wide so if anyone has a drive shaft with that width it would be great, otherwise to order as stated above, I would also have to get a new crank shaft bearing, drag D washer, crank shaft guide, one way bearing assembly and one way bearing sleeve.

I don't think the guy wants to spend too much on this reel but if I can get the original drive shaft that would be great.
I've attached the schematic so you know what I'm talking about.

Appreciate your time.

Larry

Tried them. They're Tackleservice.com and I had already checked them out. I guess this reel is up for retirement.

Covered all the standard contacts for parts and service. I had spoken with Mikes and no such luck there either. They even went back to dig around in old stock for me.
Contacted all sorts of other repair depots, etc on the internet with no luck.
Thanks

I don't have that particular reel, but the quantum cabo cnw20/30 reels and IR425/435 some parts are the same, drive gear, pinion gear and D washer.  The shaft on the cabo seems longer and might need about 1/8" shaved.

Nope. The drive shaft on this reel has a "nib" on the bottom of the drive shaft that a e clip goes on. That is what broke off.

Mackeraljoe. Checked those out but they don't have the e clip area on the end.

Thanks for looking. Much appreciated.

Don't know if this will help in your search but the GX008-01 has the e-clip on the shaft also..

In the past I have resorted to calling a few reel repair contacts to see if they had an old reel laying around and if they found what I needed and were glad to ship!

Unless I can get a measurement I wouldn't know about part GX008-01. Quantum site says the Classic 1420 MGC is a narrow bait cast reel so I would have my doubts. Quantum did tell me that there was no substitute for the crank shaft.

I will call those contacts though and I very much appreciate your time on this. I've been calling around hoping to find one collecting dust somewhere but no luck.

See 1430MGC 4BB RH WIDE BAITCAST REEL. It also has the GX008-01 shaft...

This is why I let you know, there is one somewhere. It was over 2.5 weeks of calls before I found a Heddon

part for my friend's reel!

When you strike out, ask if they know of someone else who may help in your search..

Good luck,

Bob

I've sent an email off to Quantum again to see if the MGC part is compatible. In the past I've done the same hunt for weeks on parts. Just recently found a discontinued part in a shop on the other side of the country so I know that routine.
I plan on calling those numbers once I hear back from Quantum. They usually respond pretty quickly.
Thanks again Bob and I'll post the results of my search.

Quantum is no help.
Called about a dozen reel repair depots from Florida to California. Seems to have been a popular reel with a faulty drive shaft design. No one has any left.

Thanks all for trying to help out. The owner has retired the reel and I've searched as much as I can.
Thanks again to everyone for their time and consideration.
