If you have deep enough pockets you can pick up a Model F, and a Model K star drag this week...

The last Model F sold for $1000.

Here is the description from that listing

"Here is a  rare   Penn model F reel.  .The reel works great and is ready to top out your collection..There are only about 12 of these known last time I checked.Manufactured by Otto Henze in 1932 at the start of the Penn Reel co.  and thought to be the first Penn reel model produced.. It is  used and does show normal wear from use  corrosion and plating loss. It's as found. I never tried to clean it. I like it better with the natural patina. I've had it in my collection a few years but it's time to move on. No cracks in side plates. It may not be the prettiest girl at the dance but it may be your only chance to own one.. Please check pics for condition as they are part of the description..Fl. Residents will be charged 6% sales tax....Check my store for other great items!"

I believe this is a different reel, as it went to a different ebay buyer name, then the current seller.

The one for $1000.00 was a Buy it Now. The last one auctioned went for over  $1600.00.

The value of one of these is whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay. I have seen them sell for over $1000 many times. There is no doubt that they are rare, so, value depends on what a collector is willing to pay.

I remember about ten years ago at a fishing tackle antiques show, a dealer I knew came over to me and offered me a Model F, Model K with star drag and a Model K without a star drag. These reels were all nice condition. He wanted $1500 for the lot. I made a lower offer: but, he was firm and I walked. He sold to someone else and to this day, every time of think of my decision that day, I smack myself in the head, usually twice.

Mike, if it helps any, we've all done that at least once.

Guy at my local tackle shop had a very clean model K that he gave to a dad and his son to go fish with.... he found out later what he had and is hoping that guy returns to his shop someday so he can tell him how dumb he was to give that away

"This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing."

The official word on the "F" reel... ::)

If you look close you will see that the reel that was listed for $1000 did not sell, not on eBay at least, it just ended.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/181908431368   The reel for $1500 has been relisted.

Now compare the 2 reels, the one for $1000 and the one listed for $1500. It's the same reel in both listings.
