Title: Home made rigid rod holder
Post by: Tile on November 10, 2015, 10:19:16 PM
What do you get when you have a piece of 110 mm diameter PVC drain pipe, 2 caps, several screws, nuts, a piece of webbing, pieces of PVC foam, several pieces of M4 allthread and one skilled angler? You get this :)

I needed a cheap and excellent way to carry my rods to England as hold luggage. I made a trip to a local hardware store and got myself a piece of 110 mm drain pipe and a pair of caps. After cutting the pipe to length and removing the gasket collar heated both ends and fitted the caps. Tha bottom one is secured with 2 pieces of allthread arranged in a crossbolt pattern. Tha top one which is the lid is secured with one piece of allthread and has a guide point so that the lid closes in only one position. Both the lid and the caps are lined with PVC foam.

Good work on that Tile.
You gave me an Idea. One of the most cumbersome items to transport to the beach is the pvc rod holders.
If you have more than two, its like trying to carry a couple wet noodles.
I am going to drill a small hole in both ends and make a strap with some S hooks on it. ;D

Thanks,   Mr. Tilee boy,  that looks great,  should work fine.   Reminds me of mine, it went to Alaska about 20 times fro Oregon.  I put a handle on mine with a couple of loops of nylon webbing,  great job, you did!

The handle is made from a piece of webbing taken from a disused duffle bag (I hate them). The webbing is held at both ends by screws and a plate made from a piece of pipe (the offcut of the main pipe).
