Tomorrow is Veterans Day; Its a National Holiday. Lets Honor their work and sacrifices and their family's as well.
Congratulations to all they have done...... so we the people can enjoy freedom in this great country with our familys.
My hats off to them. gst.
To all the veterans on this site and to those who will never read this post. Thank you for your service. I still think about you Uncle Sonny. (lost him at Anzio) Dominick
During WWII, there were no families left untouched by the war.
My Grandmother had 5 sons, 4 of which served during the war.
My Dad went up through every island in the Pacific Theatre -- as a forward artillery spotter in the Air Corp.
My uncle Ralph was a copilot on a B-25, that was shot down over Germany. Spent 2 1/2 years as a POW.
The toughest thing was the telegrams to the families, informing them that their son was lost as his air crew went down -- and not knowing if they were dead or alive.
When the Red Cross was able to inform our family 3 months after he was shot down -- that he was alive and being held in a POW camp in Germany -- at least that was good news and some hope.
I stand in awe of the "Greatest Generation".
Respectfully,
Fred
never served, but grateful to all those who did, or still do!
Right Fred, no family is untouch. Loss 2 uncle immediately after the war PTSD, my dad says they just would not eat. It's been 24 years since I lost 3 shipmates due to helo crash. Thank you to your service vets, and thank you to those currently on watch today. Drink to the foam!
Thanks to all you vets for letting me and my family rest easy at night and providing that blanket of freedom for all of us.
You are appreciated,
Dom
Honor.....simply put,
A Combat Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve – is someone who, at one point in life, wrote a blank check made payable to, 'The United States of America', for an amount, 'up to and including his life.'
That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it !
