Title: How to open Spheros housing?
Post by: FatTuna on November 17, 2015, 06:41:14 AM
How do you open this little hatch....? I only saw the 4 screws on the outside on the housing. The housing wants to separate but this little piece needs to come out. Anyone know the procedure? Thanks

There are 4 body screws and it comes apart. If you want that block piece to come out look on top of the body and pull the eccentric out. The "block" part is where the lever used to be for the anti reverse on and off.

You can see the eccentric "silver" part in the picture.

I got that little block out after taking out the eccentric. However, the housing still does not want to open. Something is stuck on the upper part of the housing. At first I thought the main gear was seized into the bearing/sideplate but it's not. Is there something I'm missing or is it just supposed to separate after removing those four screws? There is something I saw on the schematic called the friction ring part #:7599. Does that need to come out?

Yes there is a rubber type friction ring around the top of the housing below the roller clutch that is already off.

Your new reel has the friction ring screwed on with 2 small screws. If I remember right taking one screw out will do it. You can see the rubber friction ring and the 2 screws right above the "block".

Sorry I forgot all about it..
