I'll be fishing Morro Bay with vertical/yo-yo irons and need to know what pound test leader/top shot to use.....

The leader will be attached to 65# Powerpro

Do I need flouro or can I use mono?

What pound test will be best?

rockfish, right?  i would just tie straight to the spectra and not use mono at all.  lots of fun that way!

my other reel has 25# mono...can I tie directly to that as well???

As Alan said is fine.

Otherwise, you can use a short leader of 25-30# mono. Leave the fluoro at home.

You will hook California. You want something that is not too hard to break off. The odds that any fish that will not be handled by 25-30# will bite your rig is very, very small.
