As the caption says I am ready to mount a Reel Deal Transmission on a reel. I am attaching the mounting instructions in this post as a pdf file. Please click on the link and give me an opinion as to which of these reels would be best to mount the transmission. At the bottom of the attachment it lists the reels that can accommodate the transmission. Which in your opinion would work best. I took a look at the Penn Leveline on ebay (there are several for sale). I am not familiar with the leveline as opposed to level wind. However, it looks like the leveline works by moving the line back and forth while retrieving. Any help will be appreciated. Dominick
Were you intending to fish the Penn 350? If so, it's not an ideal reel by itself OR with the trannie since replacement spiral bars are no longer available and are known to wear out.
If it's to be a display conversation piece on your shelf, then go for it.

Dominick, the real deal for the Reel Deal is the 259.
Randy
Randy, I made an offer for a leveline. If the seller accepts, I'll go with that. Otherwise do you have a leveline or 259 in display condition? Dominick
Dominick, I do not have a Leveline, but I do have a collector condition 259 in its original box. Let me know if you don't get the Leveline.
Thanks,
Randy
I have a new Leveline coming. Thanks. Dominick
Dominick,
I think that should be a fine reel to mount the 'reel deal' on. The only other choices that come to mind, would be the Squidder (maybe best), or a Surfmaster.
Here are a few pictures of my Silver Anniversity 350 with correct box, catalog (No.20), reel care foldout, Tropical lube, and wrench...

If you put it on a 501 and ran 5:1 SS gears on it you would have like a 12:1 ratio or something! The fish wouldn't be able to catch the butterfly jig.
I think the 350 or the silverbeach would look amazing as a conversation piece.

Mr. Dommie; the penn 350 I do know has a fairly slow retreive but is great for froospool drop, and some casting. It holds a lot of mono. and works great but did not meet customer appeal. Ive cought a ton of salmon with these reels. but you can buy one for parts if you need some for 30 or so dollars. Go for it, you only live once!
Thanks Gary. I have a NIB Leveline coming. I also have a NIB Reel Deal to put on it. With any luck Fishgrain will find a new 24-55 or 24-56 in the new old stock he acquired. If not Coastal_Dan tells me he has one that is in pretty good shape. That's what I love about this site, plenty of support from the members. I don't deep drop so it will be a shelfie. I'll post photos of the build. Dominick
Make sure you got all parts with that transmission, at times they could be a pain to install.
no luck on the 24-55 or 24-56 this time Dominick, but I will certainly be looking for it specifically now
Could you post a picture when completed? I'm interested in seeing how the finished product looks. Thanks

I expect to get to this project sometime next week. I reviewed the instructions for installing the transmission and at first blush it looks a little complicated. I will try to post a tutorial on it. If I do I would start a new thread. Dominick
Yes, please post an installation tutorial on the Reel Deal. I have one I plan to use on an upcoming project too
