Title: Urban fishing in AZ: Mirror Carp
Post by: rogan on December 14, 2015, 03:55:16 AM
The good news is that myself and a couple other angler had some great fish last weekend.

The bad news:  The urban lake is being drained in February to replace the dam and the fish will not be saved.

The lake has been in existence for about 15 years.  Almost 6 years ago, the dam ruptured and all the water (and fish) were lost.  Repairs were made and the lake was restocked with several species, including 70,000 fingerling Israeli mirror carp.  About 3 years ago, the carp had a disease run through the lake and hundreds were found dead, but some still remained.  A few anglers fished it and predicted the carp could grow fast.  As predicted, all those little mirrors grew into big mirrors...

Nice catches, rogan. bummer the mirror carp are written off with the dam replacement. Catch 'em while you can.
