My very first Okuma was a Salina. Now I own multiple Okumas and fish them every week. I noticed they still make the Salina but not in America. Why does Okuma offer different reels in different countries. Also Okuma Australia offers limited lifetime on their reels. Are Australian Okuma better built than their American counterparts.
I posted the same question to Okuma over week ago and no response.

I don't think Okuma will provide you with a response either. It's marketing to compete with other brands in the area.
Okuma Australia and it's counterparts around the globe are distributorships of Okuma product, these distributors sell and over see Okuma in their respective part of the World, including warranty service.
The Okuma facility located in Ontario California is owned and operated by Okuma directly.
The US Okuma does not warranty any product purchased from a foreign distributor, those distributorships are responsible for the products they sell, US Okuma does NOT warranty or service product from outside our distribution area.
Some product is the same we sell here in the states, but they also sell different lines, models, and product that coincide with fisherman's respective needs around the globe.
Thanks for the information. I just thought it was odd that the lines that are in both US market and Australian market have different lengths of warranties. Will have to say, Okuma in my experience makes a great product that you really don't have to worry about length of warranty. Knock on wood never had to collect on warranty.
I had one of the original Salina 10000 which I managed to bend the shaft on during a fight with a yellow fin. Not having the time to worry about fixing it I sent it back to OKUMA and even though it was well out of warranty they sent me back a brand new Salina II which is still going strong :)
