I need help selecting a Conventional reel for a Penn Torque 10' Casting Rod I've acquired for $0. It is rated 17 - 30 Braided Line Weight and 3 - 4 oz Lure Weight The person had an Abu 6500 Rocket???? on it. I'm a spinner guy and have never owned a conventional. I'd use it for surf fishing on this rod and maybe some boat fishing on a shorter rod. Any recommendations are appreciated. Also, I have an extra of these rods if anyone is interested in buying/trading. Thanks!!!
There are many options out there.
Depending on your budget and preferences, ir could be :
Fathom 15 or 25n
Saltist 20h
Calcutta 400a or 400TE
Avet
Abu 6500c3
Daiwa SL30SH
Among others these could be nice surf fishing reels and boat reels
Thanks for the reply! I'd like to keep it as low budget as possible without sacrificing much quality. I'd only get the chance to use it 2 - 3 times per year.
well in that case I think your best bet is to find a used in good shape abu garcia 6500c3 or c4
they more easy to use coming from a spinner reel and more cheaper than the rest of the reels I posted (compared when new)
depending on the bait, lead, or lure is the line you have to use, mono or equivalent braid.
Do you know of a resource to find out the size comparisons between mfg's? Like is a Garcia 6500 comparable to a Penn 50 or how does it work across brands?

not really, your best bet is to set your mind on two models and open a thread asking for someone who have them both to compare them size wise, line capacity, etc.
normally you find threas asking comparation bertween
Penn Baja special Vs Penn fathom 40nLD 2 speed.
avet LX Vs Daiwa saltist 40LD, etc
but I dont know of any wepage with a data base with comparation specs on many models to chose from, which would be really nice to have, tho.
