Yeah, bad enough without rabies, never mind with.... I have been vaccinated for rabies (it's a hazard of the profession), and I have sometimes daydreamed about how I would sacrifice myself if I was with a group of people and there was a rabid animal. Not something most people would ever think of, but if I'm immune I should be the one to put myself in harm's way. That being said, I've never seen a rabid animal in person.
When I was working in a vet hospital before vet school I asked the veterinarian what I would see if a rabid dog came into the clinic, asking about symptoms..... His response was, "Me running out the back door of the clinic".

Sid: I had no idea you were a veterinarian, I too was vaccinated for rabies when I was bitten by a stray dog when I was inspecting a job site when I was working for an Engineering firm in NJ. It wasn't a pleasant experience. :(

Joe, I suspect what you had was rabies PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis), which is a rabies immune globulin given after potential exposure. The vaccination I get is no worse than a flu shot. Being vaccinated I wouldn't need PEP if bitten by a rabid animal. And you aren't looking closely at the very bottom of my posts, are you? ;D
