Title: 114H Narrow
Post by: Shark Hunter on January 15, 2016, 06:02:06 AM
I picked up a Narrow 114H Tib kit from my Buddy Keith.
I was kind of surprised when I got it. This thing is really Narrow!
I didn't have one, so that why I had to have it. Maybe it will look different with the plates on.
The anniversary edition is just for reference. I'm not touching it. ;)

Nice, and just think, Lee wants a 114HNN kit from them that is narrower still!

You have got to be kidding me.
Any more narrow and it would not hold any line. ;D
I was going to post a pic of the narrowest of tib kits next to the widest of the 114H , but I found this pic of Sal's. It really puts it into perspective.

Why would you want such a drastic yardage cut? Just to reduce the reel weight?
Turns it into a more inshore/bay reel, I guess. It does look neat though.

I plan on using this reel to run a trotline for bait.
With Hex Drags and steel gears. I think I can lock it down and have 50lbs of drag in a small package.

with all the great modern braids you can still pack those spools with plenty of line.  I love the narrow reels. that blue one is a beauty.

The narrow spool has many advantages. A 114HNN would be the same size as a 349. It is easier to cast and, depending on gear ratio, can bring in a bunch of line on one crank. There is also less issue laying the line flat. I like them.

Narrow is nice. Drop some 3.25:1 gears in there and yoyo away.

It will also make a heck of a tuna reel when nicely equipped.

Ted, how much is that blue going to set me back? You already know it needs to come here ;D.
You could hold on to that handle, as you know, I'm not a fan of those ;)

Daron it will look bigger when put together. Surprisingly it holds a ton of braided line and as you know it will be super strong..!! My Gulf jigging and bottom reels are all narrow. You don't have to worry about line lay when in a commotion with big fish trying to pull you over.

Ball-bearing, steel gear, side accessible drags?  That donor reel was well worth the work!

Yea,
Those gears cleaned up really nice.
That is why I decided to keep them.
They Look New.
It had the old 3 stack asbestos in it with a lot of oil on them. I say it wasn't pulling much drag.

It amazes me how long those things can be in there before someone finally gives up on it.
