Guy up the road from me last Saturday was having a garage sale and the sign said fishing gear - so popped in and there was a few alvey's and some old boat rods etc and noticed a tag in front of a rag on a shelf saying Penn 970 - picked the rag up an un wrapped it - I knew from the weight that this looks promising - I was even more shocked when the owner said they only wanted $25 bucks for it - You guessed right and couldn't get my wallet out of my pocket quick enough - I also scored an oldish 500L.

Gave the 970 a good clean and greased with Cal's grease - will double dog at a later date - took the old clamp inserts out and replaced with a new up to date clamp - The drags are asbestos but its smooth as silk - will upgrade soon . Took one coil off the mag adjuster spring - gives a full turn and a quarter out . Loaded with 20lb + 30lb leader and  casting between 130 - 140 meters .

Thanks for the reply's guys its been awhile since I last posted and a big sorry to Sal - Alto Mare - Keta and MFB - Mark - I've only just noticed how to find and get into my pm messages - my screen quit small and never rearly noticed the blue tabs before.

I bet you couldn,t beleive your eyes!  or ears!,    good find, and a lucky day for you.   We are so poor were I live nobody even has a garage.  Let alone a sale!  ha, ha.
